johnsons oasys were recommended to me as i have dry eyes, and these are 2 weekly ones. has she tried those?

There is a brand new daily lens out by johnsons acuvue called tru eye, is that the one she has been recommended? This lens is ment to be amazing i know 3 people who have tried it and they say it was amazing, like not wearing contacts at all all day every day.

tru eye uses the same materials as monthly/2 weekly lenses so even though it is a daily lens it can be worn all day every day as it lets in so much oxygen to the eye. Normal daily lenses dont let enough oxygen into the eye so shouldnt be worn all day every day.

The downside is the cost and avilablility, it is only available at acuvue approved centres at the minute, there is no free trials avilable yet either. The cost is about £50-60 a month for 30 pairs. But there is a £30 off your first purchase voucher here. you need to have a new contact lens assesment though.

Ive just had a free trial for tru eye from vision express brimingham branch, not sure if its nationwide. They are really good but expensive, anyone know of any cheaper alternatives? I really dont have a clue when it comes to lenses.
  • I had the same experience from my optician and got so fed up having to start up a direct debit agreement and cancel it halfway through just so I could get my prescription. In the USA it is Federal Law to provide a customer with their prescription as soon as they pay for test. Perhaps something like this should be introduced in the UK??? I'm stuck in a small town where one optician has the monopoly so I started looking online and found some contact lens companies that don't need to see your prescription they just need you to confirm you have a valid prescription which you should have anyway, for your eyes sake! You can still benefit from cheap deals from the US as the 'sighting' of your prescription seems to only apply to US residents yeehaaa!!! I found a great deal at http://www.thecontactlensdirectory.com
from a US based company so if you know where to look you can benefit from cheap lenses.
  • Hi,
does anyone know if it's possible to sell contact lenses anywhere. I'm sure you used to be able to on ebay but can't anymore.

I'm due to get laser eye surgery soon but have 12 months worth of Specsavers monthly lenses that I haven't used!

  • can you sell them back to specsavers?

failing that i think there is some sort of charity (sightsavers) that might be glad to take them off your hands.

Why did you buy 12months worth of lenses if you were due to have laser surgery?

I've been using lensmail and have recently moved house & had a baby so hadn't realised how many I'd accumulated! (I wasn't planning on getting the surgery so soon either but changed my mind)

The guy at lensmail said the store 'might' take back the last lot that had been delivered but as I'm now out of the country and can't get to my store I can't even try.

I may see if the store local to my parents would take them as they're about to visit so I could send them back to the UK with them.

  • Hi, I'm sure this has been asked before but this is the longest thread EVER and I can't bring myself to read all of it. I've never had contacts before and I am wondering what is the best way to start. I have had an eye test. I was thinking it might be best to sign up with a scheme for the aftercare until I'm sorted. What do you think and is Specsavers the cheapest?#

    Thanks

Can understand your response on this. Would you be operating a franchise, thereby the business being yours?

And do Specsavers branches generally/always offer Sauflon? The reason I didn't originally get mine from the company, apart from my discomfort with the branch I tried, was that they hadn't yet started to stock them and I was impatient to try them out.

So, I may try a different branch and will go along, confident that I have a good idea about what I want. I think they might provide a delivery service and, if all is okay, would be happy to sign up for it.

Is it your experience that these, aspheric lenses, require a slightly different diopter strength?

    Thanks,

hi, been on hols hence not replying sooner.

I'm just am employee so it doesn't actually make a difference to me where the px buys their lenses :D

All Specsavers stores can now supply Sauflon, and when they first came out we did push them a little, but to be honest I have stopped using them so much now as most patients prefer different lenses. Personaly I always found the sauflons a little uncomfortable.
Occasionally with different fitting lenses you will need to alter the strength, but not often.

Thanks. They're definitely the best I've tried - acuity and comfort.

I have recently started wearing glasses for reading and using the computer. I have numerous pairs dotted around the house, handbag, desk etc, as I hate being somewhere without them if I need them. The problem is that it drives me mad to be able to see clearly close up, but as soon as I look up everything is blurred, or I am peering over the top of them like an old granny while I am talking to someone.

Does anyone have any experience of contact lenses for short sightedness? Can you see clearly all of the time when they are in? Can you look at something close up and then look into the distance? Or do you have one for close up and one for distance and constantly have to close one eye?
  • I used to wear contact lenses for short sightedness (vision has since changed so that I don't need them any more).

I never had any difficulty reading / doing close work whilst wearing my lenses. Some opticians offer a contact lens trial to see how you get along with them. I had a trial through SpecSavers, but that was years ago.

Best person to ask would be your optician :)

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.
