Can anyone please recommend a cheap supplier for air optix? Has anyone used contact for lenses?

Okay i need some help and advice.
I've been wearing Specsavers all day (premium own brand) for the last 7years without concern. I initially had a contract to pay £9 or £10 a month but stoppped it for a while because I had built up a store of lens. After those had been used up I went to Tesco opticians to get an eye check up with a view to buying more lens online for cheaper.
Well i was given a pair to trial for a week without asking me which brand and price range i would like. Well now it turns out that he gave me their most expensive Air optics which will cost more than i was paying at Specsavers! I said i wanted to buy the proclear compatibles (which are the same as specsavers ones i was on) and he said no i must go through the trialling process again. I'm really annoyed. Surely If the prescription is the same I order the lens I want. ie the prescription isn't product based or is it? It really got me annoyed that he was only willing to sell me the one brand when its not what i asked for.
Proclears are £27 for 6 months whereas air optics (the cheapest I can find) are £34. Are they really worth the extra?
Thank you!July Win: Nokia 58000 -

Air Optix are a new generation lens which let a huge amount more oxygen through to your corneas and will therefore, in all probability prevent the usual complications associated with a lack of oxygen from occuring. I don't think £7 per 6 months is a lot to gripe about for vastly superior and healthier contact lenses - go for it!Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

Thank you Nedmundo!
I didn't realise that they are far superior to the proclear compatible, I guess your right - eye health is more important than saving a couple of quid. I've placed the orderJuly Win: Nokia 58000 -
Hi,
Is there anyway to find out for definite whether I can get the daily use lenses for my eye type? The optician told me that "They will be available soon" - but I have no idea if that means that they will be selling them soon, or whether that means the 'technology' or whatever is going to be available soon.
I use toric lenses for what it's worth so can't just use the regular lenses
I really, really could do with dailys though - I wear my lenses maybe once or twice a week (going out and playing football) so having to change them every month is a real pain.
Thanks!0 -
Hi,
I wear contact lenses but have had some discomfort/irritation in my eyes and went for a check up today and was told I may be having a slight allergic reaction to the contact lens solution I am using.
It was suggested that I use Bausch and Lomb's "Renu".
I used to use Tesco's multi-purpose solution and at the moment have a supply of Specsavers "Easy Vision".
Just wondering if anyone knows if B&L make solution for any other non-brands, such as Tesco etc., that might be cheaper than Renu.
Or can an optician recommend any other solution which is similar to Renu?
ALSO, I was prescribed some antibiotic eye drops, "Exocin" but have just noticed the packaging says "should not be used by soft contact lens wearers" - does this just mean I shouldn't use the drops and wear the lenses at the same time? I forgot to ask the doctor this when I saw him and only read the label when I got home...!
Many thanks in advance for any advice.0 -
Hello all,
I need to save money on my contact lenses - I currently pay £36 for a box of 30 Accuvue Dailies from my local optician which I think is expensive. As I buy them "as and when" I need them (as I don't wear them every day) and I am not on one of their direct debit schemes, I also have to pay £20 each time I have a check up.
I have looked on the net and found Daysoft lenses which are much cheaper. Does anyone else have experience of these lenses, are they ok? and will an optician still give you a check up even if you are not getting your lenses from them?
Thanks for reading my post.0 -
Hey Jayne!
It really depends what Acuvue lenses you are on, how sensitive your eyes are and how long you wear your lenses everyday.
I use Acuvue Moist Dailies and Acuvue Oasys myself, and have tried using the Daysoft, but because my eyes are really sensitive and dry, I find the Acuvue ones much much more comfortable for longer.
I wear my lenses for around 12 hours + a day, with the Acuvue ones, but would only be able to wear the Daysoft ones for 4-5 hours each day without discomford.
Hope this helps a little0 -
Thanks DailyClicker for you reply.
I use the ordinary Acuvue lenses and wear them for approx 8-9 hours 2 or 3 times a week. The rest of the time I wear glasses. I don't seem to have any problems with dry eyes or anything.
Just want to save some cash as my current lenses work out expensive. Think I may give the Daysoft ones a try. I am still concerned about getting check ups done with my usual opticians - I don't think they like the idea of their customers getting cheaper lenses elsewhere!
Thanks again.0 -
Yeah, nothing wrong with giving it a try!!
Daysoft has fantastic customer service, and if your not happy, you can return your lenses for a full refund even if you have used quite a few!
You mentioned paying £20 per checkup, this sounds like Specsavers prices. I know with them you can wear whichever lenses you like to the check-up.
Just let them know that you have switched because of the price and it's more comfortable and they won't have a problem.0
