    Hey everyone,

I seen the contact lens sticky but it doesn't quite fit there.

Anyway, I got contact lenses from specsavers which was the same prescription as my glasses. However the vision on the contact lenses was really bad.

I think I want to buy my contacts from a website.

Specsavers have been good, except if I want an appointment I have to wait 2 weeks as they are so busy.

Any comments on why my contact lenses vision is so bad, but my glasses are fine - they are both the same prescription.

    Thanks.

Bad meaning weak? If so, that's not right.

My vision with lenses is slightly different - it's due to the lenses being close to my eye than the glasses.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • I get my contact lenses and glasses from Specsavers and my prescription for contact lenses is different to the one for glasses.

  • nice advice! Disgruntled former employee perhaps?!

Interesting what you said about wearing contact lenses for more than 10 hours - i've just ordered B&L Purevision lenses that are supposed to be ok to wear for 30 days of continuous use. I trust these are ok??

I used www.visiondirect.co.uk and they were brilliant.... £8.59 for a month's worth of daily disposable cibavision lenses.
You can't argue with that, can you?:D

Don't worry, I'm not sure what opticians susan10 works at but some of her imformation is incorrect and certainly does not apply to all opticians.

B&L Purevision lenses are made of Silicon Hydrogel, which transmit much more oxygen to the cornea than traditional Hydrogel lenses. Most daily-wear (ie not overnight) lenses are hydrogel, these generally should not be worn longer than ~12 hrs per day as long-term overwearing can damage the eyes.

The Silicon Hydrogel lenses are healthier for the eyes so can be worn longer, and some, like the Purevision or Ciba Day & Night are licensed for 30 days continuous wear. It is still a good idea to remove them occasionally though, I generally recommend that my patients take a night off once a week to give their eyes a rest and to clean the lenses.

Best thing to do if you have any questions about your eyes or contacts is ask your optician, we are not all here to "rip off patients"

Does anyone know if I get a eye test with a highstreet opticians, and then order online using that prescription to get contact lenses, it will work?

By that I mean, will the vision by good? Or is there more to it than that?

    P.s. probably a dumb question!

    Hi

I work at an opticians and I have to tell that all we think about is ripping off Patients. All of you have the right to know your prescription and own it on a stamped and signed paper, even if it is an old prescription. An annual cl check up is reasonable though a waste of time and money for you. We never caught anyone with problems, they are very rare. An annual cl check up is a good opportunity for u to ask for free trial cls of all type.
Even if you are a moneysaver you should not wear your lenses for more than 10 hours a day and longer than 30 days if you do not want to get blind.
Always shop around for contactlenses. We prescribe particular type of lenses because the big CL companies pay for optometrists to prescribe their expensive lenses.Less expensive ones are fine as well.
All of these online cl orderings are ok. I have tested them. Does not matter if they are online or offline, opticians always want to rip you off, so I do not think that online colleagues will check the prescription thoroughly.Opticians are well known for their casual laziness. I have worked at many high street opticians and never got a call from internet colleagues for a prescription check.

Spectacles: Onlines are fine as well. They use the same lenses and frames as we but they are ok with less profit.
Spectacles are expensive because opticians work as a cartel together and maximised the prices on the UK market. We work with 400 % profit on every pair of glasses.
Example: we buy a pair of N...n lenses for 1 pound (I signed the invoices) and sell it for 400 pounds = 399 pounds profit
we buy a Pr..a designer frame for 10 pounds and sell it for 200 pounds.

All these designer frames are made in the same factory as the cheap ones and of the same material. You guys only pay for the brand, not the quality.

I dread to think what else you've been told during your illustrious career. The points you make are so far of the mark, I really have to doubt that you really do work in a Opticians - if you do then you should try working at a different practice. Then you will see that your experiences/ knowledge are an unfortunate exception and not the rule - How unprofessional!
Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

I get my daily disposables from here for £13 a month:

I totally agree having converted to contact lenses at the age of 50! I go to a local optician for my annual check who also checks for glaucome(that bit is free as my brother has early onset glaucoma)

Very very happy with Daysoft- fantastic delivery and they also provide 4 extra days free so that you can return the unopened pack if not happy. Well worth a try!
