i'm with janb5 - i have daily disposables now from https://www.daysoft.co.uk which work out at under £40 for 96 pairs so even if i wear them full time (which I don't) I am spending less than I did on my monthlies.0

hi
im currently with specsavers on £13 a month contact lense scheme. I use O2 Optix lenses and have had no problems with them so far apart from the occasional dry eye syndrome i experience at the end of a long day of wearing them. i get them posted to me every 3 months - i get 3 pairs of lenses and 3 bottles of solution sent to me. Also aftercare is included in the price which i think is quite good and if i loose a lens then all i have to do is go to the branch that im registered at and they'll provide me with another one - this has happened before too and theyve just given me a replacement lense, no questions asked.
I'm considering switching to an internet provider for my lenses as ive heard that they are cheaper - would anyone know if id still be entitled to the same level of customer service that im getting at the moment from specsavers if i went with an internet provider. If im not actually buying any lenses from them then surely i wouldnt be entitled to free aftercare would i? And if i lost or damaged a lense how would i manage?
Does anyone have any experience of buying lenses from an internet vendor. At the mo im paying £156 a year for 12 pairs....ive found the same brand on the internet at £60 for 12 pairs.
please help!!0 -
Wow, I can't believe that I haven't bothered to sort this out before.
I pay £15.00 a month and my wife pays £15.00 a month.
We both have daily disposables and I wear mine once a week (twice a week maximum) and my wife twice a week (three times a week maximum).
So, going by what you say I should be able to get a pair for 41p.
That's a maximum of 82p a week = * 4.33 = £3.55 / month for me.
A maximum of 1.23 a week = * 4.33 = £5.32 / month for my wife.
So, £8.87 a month rather than the current £30.00.
£253.00 saving over a year.
A bit depressing that I haven't done this ages ago to be honest!
Am I getting my figures wrong?
Thanks.

hiya lacoste, I work for specsavers, if you buy your lenses online you will not get the free aftercare, you will have to pay for all your check-ups (that is, the "routine" ones and any extra ones you need if you have any problems) This will cost between ~£17-£25 depending which area you are in.
You will not get any free replacement lenses either. And don't forget to factor in the cost of the cleaning solutions too!

Yes but if she were to have daily lenses she wouldnt need to worry about losing one! As I have said in my original post, I pay £13.98 a month or 38.98 for three months supply( both eyes!) I will have my eyes tested next week at the opticians but I am still better off than before. I would have paid £36 for three months supply of monthlies. HTH
I used to worry all the time that I would drop the lens or crack it before the month was up!
Daysoft will send you 4 trial days on top of a months supply every time so if you were unhappy with them, your money would be refunded

I have absolutely no tips for getting them in, I've been wearing toric lenses for about 3 years and still feel like I'm randomly poking myself in the eye every morning! To take them out I use a finger and a thumb each side of the iris and slide my index finger across to my thumb which kinda scrunches it up and enables you just to pluck it out. I've never had any problems damaging my lenses like this but think if you squeezed too hard it might tear them.£2 Coin Savers Club £14 :j (joined 18/2/06)0

I wear toric lenses, have done for about 15 years now.. what I do is this:
to put them in, I put the lens the right way round (i.e with the weighted bit at the bottom) on my index finger, use my other hand to hold my upper eyelashes out of the way, look straight ahead and gently touch the lens to my eye. I don't need to apply any pressure to the eye at all really. It helps if the lens still has a bit of the solution inside it.
to take lenses out, I look up slightly and use my thumb and index finger to gently slide the lens down away from the iris and then squeeze my thumb and finger together slightly and pull the lens away from my eye at the same time
Don't know if that helps at all... Good luck with your trial - I really wouldn't be without my contact lenses now, so I hope they work out for you.
edited to add - I also find it helps if I try not to look at what I'm doing but just look ahead into the distance0 -
