Hi All,
Hopefully someone can help.
A couple of months ago a cancelled my Direct Debit of £28 for the Boots Premium Dailies because I noticed thanks to MSE I can get them alot cheaper on-line.
At my last Aftercare appointment before I cancelled I was recommended some Hydrogel contact lens (I pretty sure that's what the optician said). They where charging alot more for them.
Does anyone have these from them or does anyone know which ones the optician was talking about?
Was thinking of buying some online to try them out.
Thanks in advance.0 -

I strongly suggest you don't do this.
You may find yourself with lenses that don't fit properly as contact lenses have more than one measurement.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

ok so is the only way to change the contact lens I wear to go back to the optician.
Or continue buying the ones I already have
That is right. Contact lenses are a medical device and therefore a prescription item, so the only way you can get the prescription changed to is to visit a prescriber - your contact lens optician or optometrist.
In general if you wear lenses every day then a reusable lens (e.g. monthly) will be most cost effective.
Daily disposables are generally most cost effective if you wear them 4 days per week or less however even if you wear them full time daily disposables have a number of advantages that may outweigh the increased cost:
- use them once and throw away so no hassle cleaning and disinfecting so most hygienic
- best for allergy sufferers
- no problem if you lose or damage a lens - you always have spares
I know this is a money saving forum but the cheapest lenses are far from being the best for your eyes - your optician will doubtless recommend the latest high oxygen silicone hydrogel lenses. Taking this advice means longer comfortable wearing times each day and whiter brighter eyes for the vast majority of people0 -
Hi i need some advice on what to do about my contact lenses please
i have my full prescription from vision express infront of me.
i dont wear glasses or contact lenses but i know i should have a few pairs just for night time driving and other things.
so i really need daily disposables i guess......this is what i had before.
my right eye is -1.5
left is -1.25
so eye sight isnt that bad but would still like to get some as i havent worn them for years.....
what is my best option do you think?
i just wanted to order some daily disposables online so i have them when i really need them.......where is best to order from?
i can only honestly see me wearing these contact 2-3 days a week0 -
Prompted by this great thread, I have just cancelled my Boots Contact Lenses by Post @£23 per month, as found I can get my lenses (Acuvue Oasys - two week lenses) for £12.50 a month including solution from Asda.com + £15 for an annual aftercare check, saving me £111 per year! The lenses from Asda are even the same price if I buy three months or a 12 month’s supply at a time.
On a plus point for Boots when I phoned to cancel (which was very easy) Boots did automatically offer to charge me for only 9 of the next 12 months if I stayed with them, saving me £69. Not quite as good as Asda but if you needed to take advantage of the half price glasses from Boots opticians you get when you are a contact lenses subscriber it would be worth phoning and threatening to cancel (only just bought new glasses, so Asda it is for me).0 -
