MORE FOOL EVERY SUCKER who buys a licence, you're just making it easy for them.
Oh and someone said it pays them to do the chasing here, no it doesn't it costs them about 10 times as much to go round chasing licences than they receive in income from the new licences they get paid for.
Do you mean that you have a TV without a licence, or just no TV at all?Midas.0 -

A student has to pay a whole year's TV License and there are no discounts or anything even though you are a student. Daylight robbery comes to mind.
Just in case there are any students reading this... one way that you can save some money on your TV licence is to cancel it over the summer (if you aren't living in your student digs and remove any TV equipment from it). If you send it off to cancel it they refund any unused months back to you.
There should probably be some kind of discount for students/low income people but there isn't, even though over 75s get it free regardless of how rich they are!
It's just another regressive stealth tax really.Midas.0 -

I don't mean either one, I mean all the payers are suckers. YOu're as bad as those pesky licence officers poking their noses into my business.
I guess that you have the right to remain silent
Suckers perhaps, or just law abiding citizens?
As much as I disagree with the principle of TV licencing (which I do), I think there are better ways to protest against laws that you don't like than by flouting them.Midas.0 -
Students can also (contrary to the TV Licencing advert playing on radio these days) use their parents home TV licence if they use a battery powered TV for example a nice laptop computer with a TV card in it. I think this might only apply to those in the university halls of residence, check the TV licence website for actual details.
So in this respect there is already relief given to students, but they all have cars these days and spend copious amounts on alcohol and taxis....go figure.0 -
TBH I *love* the TV licence. If we can persuade the BBC to get rid of the flipping dogs and stop advertising *themselves* so much (adverts are adverts whether they advertise BBC or Toothpaste) then it would be perfect.
However the b-stards that run the TV licencing operation *ALL* need to be taken out and shot. They, their systems, their management and attitude all stink to high heaven and a reet good sorting out is required. I am reasonably confident that 1/2 of the backlash towards the TV licence is entirely due to TVL's dodgy way of conducting business. If they got that bit running with a bit more intelligence and respect then I am sure there'd be less people so dissatisfied with paying it.0 -
100% agree with you there its the Bully Boy tactics that I cant stand.0

I'm with Midas on this. I don't like or agree with the principle of TV licensing but since it is in place, I pay it.
I switched to monthly direct debit so that it is more affordable. There is no extra charge for doing this, but depending on when you start, you may have to pay a bit extra per month for the first few months (they like to get to a stage where you are 6 months in credit, then you make normal monthly payments - ok it's not ideal but it's better than being 12 months in credit).
Note: anyone paying by quarterly direct debit has to pay an admin charge but here is no admin charge for monthly (presumably because you are further in credit).0 -
i have a couple of stories abt them firstly the one were my mum would rent her tv and when she died my dad got rid of it and never replaced it, he was always out and abt.. they kept sending letters to my mum, dad sent them back saying deceased, more and more letters came and knocks at the door and as he wasnt in they left notes saying they had called. eventually after abt 2 yrs of this he was in when they called they were really nasty and when my dad said my mum had died they said yes we hear that all the time. dad said they could come in and check he had no tv which they pushed him out the way to get to the living room .. at which point my dad produced my mums death certificate and shoved it right in there faces and i mean shove lol.. he told them that if he got one more letter he would sue for harrasment lol .. they stopped hassling him and when dad had a operation we got him a portable telly and never told the tv people lol
as for me .. ive been paying my tv licence for yrs monthly and even to this day they will insist in sending it in my ex husbands name.. they tell me if i cancel it they will have to reissue a new licence but i will have to forfit the months i have pain in advance told them forget it im not paying more than i have to for this tax.. so 5 yrs on still coming in addressed to mr rather than mrs lolThose we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -
