Sounds good.. What does it mean by non click wheel? And do they have normal USB linkage with a PC? Thanks.

It's a 3rd generation model which doesn't have the click wheel, it uses an older style navigation wheel with separate touch buttons instead.

Read this for info on the different generations:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPod

The 3rd gens do support USB2 for synching files, not sure if it actually comes with a USB cable though. they only cost a about a fiver off ebay if you don't get one with it.

Update: Just checked and it doesn't appear to come with a USB cable. If you do get one from eBay I suggest you get a USB+Firewire combo cable. These 3rd gen iPods cannot be charged over USB, which means that the battery could run out before you finish transferring files.

By using a combo cable you can connect the iPod to the power source as well as the PC at the same time, so it won't run out of battery during file transfer, and the battery will be full when you finish file transfer.

it says no docking station how much do these cost and whats the non click wheel

Official dock stations are about £25-30 IIRC, though there may be cheaper 3rd party ones available. They are not actually necessary for normal operation.

Click wheel info as mentioned in the post above with wiki link.

https://www.ilounge.com also has tons of info.

    Anyone buy one then? :)

I imagine so because they're all sold out now! (except the 30GB)

This thread has received over 500 reads! Mostly lurkers I imagine :D
  • I got one thanks! Seems a reasonable price for a 10Gb MP3 player.

    Thanks for the tip.

There's some 3rd gen iPods on there for decent prices:

    10GB: £76.38 sold out
    15GB: £94.00 sold out

    and not so decent prices:

    20GB: £148.99 sold out
    30GB: £159.00

These tend to be brand new units btw :)

good find but after just watching watchdog and finding out theres a problem with the batteries that could cost up to £50 to replace, millions of yanks took apple to court over this .. then i think these ipods not such a good buy at the moment no matter now cheap they get

Good point jockettuk though that won't stop the bargain hunters (and there is an awful lot of them!). Many of them have probably bought several to flog on eBay.

  • Lived dangerously and shelled out on a 15GB one. Potential battery replacement not a problem for me as I fall into the poor social skills/high technical competence category - I'm an engineer! LOL.

I saw Watchdog tonight and wouldn't touch an iPod with a bargepole!
It sounds like half the owners in the USA have sued Apple for a new battery!
Many have had problems within the warranty period but it seems as soon as it hits 12 months they don't want to know.
Remember the 12 month warranty is only a guide as it should last longer than that!

  • Had my ipod for 2 years now, used every day and battery is still fine. I know there have been problems but everyone I know with one hasn't had an issue. The fact that it looks like half the owners in the US have sued Apple, doesn't mean a lot as it is the sue capital of the world.

New model have a vastly improved battery life though.
