An expensive day yesterday, but it would have been a lot worse without MSE:money:

We bought a wii for DD's birthday for RRP, but got a game free with it that's #2 in the charts, I also bought a half price game for it during the week at Morrison's after seeing the offer on here.

I renewed the car insurance for cheaper than last year's, and will get £70 cashback for visiting the insurance site through Quidco.

Also did an online shop with Tesco and got £9 off the total thanks to vouchers on here.

All of these things would have been bought anyway, but with MSE it was about £124 cheaper!!:D

Yesterday I tried to pay bagged up money from Peefer the pig into PO - but they wouldn't accept it  - DK why, they always have before  .

Also tried to post an eaby parcel but as I has missed the post they wouldn't accept it, even although I was happy it wouldn't go till Monday  .

Can someone tell me what the point of a PO being open on a Sat afternoon is if they won't do anything  . I bet they'd have sprung into action if I'd wanted to buy an insurance policy  .

Anyway, I did manage to meal plan & shop for that, so today I will:
    - sort out food for next few days
    - hopefully collect a few things I've replied to on freecycle
    - if no-one wants the things I've offered, bag them up for charity shop
    - buy petrol using 5p Tesco voucher
    - bung a few more things on ebay
    - go for a walk in the SUNSHINE :j
    - try and think of a different way to pay off 153k in 8 years, rather than working hard & saving every penny ;)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞
  • We've done abit more work on the spare room decorating. Worst problem we have is the furniture etc - nowhere else to stash it so it has to stay put, meaning we have to work around it which is a bit frustrating. OH is up the stepladder at the moment taking down the old coving with the aid of a sharp knife. We dicovered that our vinegar/stardrops/water solution is BRILLIANT fopr removing the bits of wallpaper backing stuck to the wall though! :j

I've got a big pot of bolognese sauce cooking away to itself in the kitchen using mince bought at the farmers market yesterday morning. Also a smaller pot of lamb curry using the remains of the joint from today - I bought a whole shoulder at the market yesterday morning, portioned it into two joints and a bag of trimmings for stew or curry, froze that bag and one joint and the other joint will now have done two of us for lunchtime today and a further two pots of curry.

Made muffins again (double chocolate and rasberry ones - yummy!) rather than buying cakes.

Will have HM pizza for tea tonight - the dough for the base will be made in the breadmaker. We're also heading out for a walk in a bit to hunt down some blackberries - we know where there were lots last year - fingers crossed they're there again this year!

I'm out for a day from work this week doing site visits - lots of miles so a reasonable payment due on that which will get transferred straight to the ISA as soon as it's paid out. Most of the week should be NSD's as I've got no speedway meetings this week - my team are on Sky tomorrow night at a track I couldn't have got to anyway - hurrah!

Hi, not been around for a while as I've been working away a lot. Hope you've all been keeping up the MFW ways!

I've saved money on food for the last couple of weeks as my meals have been paid for by work, but have offset this by drinking in the hotel bar:rolleyes: . Hopefully our small daily allowance for sundries will have covered this so I'll come out even. Must do some sums. I've been putting train tickets and other expenses on my Amex so will have added to my cashback. The other bonus is my car has hardly been used recently so no petrol to pay for. I've also come back with a bit of a stash of toiletries. It all helps!

I transfered by monthly overpayment yesterday. It'll be nice to see how many months it's knocked off. Can't wait for the letter from Nationwide (sad isn't it?!)

I had a nice suprise of £30 waiting for me when I logged into by current account from switching my energy suppliers. I'd heard nothing since doing it so didn't think it had worked. I already had my eye on a bargain lightweight tent in Argos (half price, £25!) so put it towards that.

I'd been looking for a bright yellow cycling jacket and it's this month's free gift with a cycling magazine subscription which I also wanted. Perfect! That's saved me £30.

I've managed nearly a no spend weekend. I bought a few essentials in Boots (after comparing prices of course) and paid for most of them using my points then had lunch with my Mum and she insisted on paying. Today has been spent painting the shed. I didn't even have to go to Focus as there was plenty of creosote-type stuff left over from last time.

This week I'm in the office all week so my aim is to cycle in at least twice to save petrol. I'm also aiming to take in lunch at least 4 times.

I think that's all my ramblings for now!
  • I resisted the temptation to spend £40 on a new suede jacket at TK Maxx which had an RRP of about £290. I was sorely tempted but I really don't need another black jacket and especially not suede when I have 2 small children with colds. Imagine the slime trails  . Sorry I know TMI :D

    Hi all

have not posted on this thread before so hope ok to join you all ...

my details are on the 2008 new m f wannabes thread but we have had a good weekend of MFW activity - did two car boots sales , one today and one yesterday and actually made £120!!! so very pleased with this £100 going straight onto the fund :j

managed to get to asda at just the right time today to get all my veggies, fruit , meat for sandwiches for work etc for 20p each whcih made a perfect accompaniment to the lamb i had taken out of the freezer which also had a yellow sticker of just 75p!!!!

then have literally just taken a crumble out of the oven made using some windfall apples that next door gave to me - even more fun made it with DS who is just three so a total no spend weekend and some good fun along the way !!!

at 7 months pregnant am now so tired that will be in bed v soon so definitely no nipping out for any little nibbles

    Hi everyone,

Picked up a few good tips from this thread, so thought I would join in as I need the motivation!

I realised what a NSD is, but I've been puzzling over the NPD someone mentioned - but it's finally clicked - it's a No Petrol Day isn't it?

Had 2 NSDs so far this week, Sat and yesterday.
    Today-
Rang bank and cancelled DD for magazine.
Checked Paypal money has gone into bank.
Made a salad at home last night and remembered to bring it in to work today.

  • Used my own car for a day of site visits from work so that'll be 150 miles of expenses to apply for.

Cooked cauliflower & macaroni cheese for dinner tomorrow using up a small cauli from the last veg box. Cooked double quantity of the bechamel sauce so I could experiment with freezing this.

Made pudding for tonight with blackberries picked at the weekend plus apples out of the freezer. Topped off with sponge it made a lovely pud!

Did a letter to Northern Rock for the settlement figure on the loan and another to the lady who owns the cottage we stay in when we go to the Hebrides with the deposit for our next trip. (A whole SIX months away - how will I wait?!) I'll print these at work tomorrow ready to send.
