    My failures were:

Juicer, not much juice for a lot of chopping up of fruit, and a nightmare to clean!

Breadmaker, loaves were like bricks and it took up too much space.

Stick blender, I used a couple of times but just couldn't get on with it.

The latest gadget I have seen in the shops is an electric jam maker! If we bought all the gadgets now available we'd need kitchens the size of a barn!

I bought some Stardrops and only used it once as the smell really seems to get on my chest!

however a friend gave me some stardrops spray and that's fine :)

My breadmaker and sandwich toaster are seldom used - BUT, they`re great to use every now and then when there`s a fad on! Meanwhile I keep them in the caravan, as they take up too much room in the kitchen.
Things I never put away, things as permanently out for use as the kettle, are my stick blender and the steamer. I also have a `compact` food processor that gets pretty regular use, but it`s often so much easier to use the stick blender and makes less washing up!

One of those special pancake makers that were on sale a few years ago. They started off in Woolworths, worked their way into Home Bargains. I bought one, tried using it once. No ebay, no car boot sale. I threw it straight in the bin. What a hunk of junk.

I really like my breadmaker - I got it off freecycle and use it about once a week at least.

This is where freecycle is so good. If there is something I am not sure I will use I will get it off freecycle to try (like the BM) - if I like it I will use it until it breaks then buy a new one (at a reduced price obviously! ;))

Before freecycle or ebay existed I bought a steamer... used it about 3 times in total. My mum uses her a lot though.

My brother bought me a "entertaining" (entertaining as in for when you have people round rather than entertaining as in amusing...) wine serving kit complete with wine thermometer and champagne cork remover . It has been in the back of my cupboard, unopened ever since. I feel guilty because it would have been rather expensive, but I only live in a little flat and don't drink at home!
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Funnily enough it was free skip day here last week and I threw my breadmaker in it. If I had remembered my juicer in the attic it would have gone too! My mum loves gadgets and has bought my dd in the past a popcorn maker and doughnut maker - both rubbish also.

Isn't it funny how other people seem to think that because they have a great gadet that you desperately NEED it? My MIL has bought (or influenced my OH to buy) a George Foreman type grill (we gave it away unused!), a juicer from Ikea - oh and another from Tesco (again given away!); an egg cooker - have to say this was very useful when I had two crawling / walking! A cheap bread machine - broke before we got much use out of it! One of those larger size bread machines (so you get a full length loaf) - the paddles in them mix opposite ways so all I got was a loaf which broke in half as soon as you picked it up!

Various garden implements and recipe books as well as all sorts of things I "need" to entertain with. I swear if it wasn't for her my kitchen could be teeny tiny and still practical!! Last gift was pastry forks - to eat little pastries with - she knows I battle with my weight. But I can't do anything yet as she's terminally ill and I don't want to upset OH.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Don't talk to me about pastry forks! We do use them but Mum was convinced that we had to have some for gracious living, so she bought us two sets. This was in addition to the set we already had. Then there was the cheese knife - the one with the curved blade. We have to rootle around for five minutes in the back of the drawer before we can find it when she comes.

Rant over. Back on topic, those fancy bottle stoppers never get used in our house. They're supposed to recork the bottle when you've got some wine left at the end of the evening...
  • My George Foreman got used a voiuple of times, then got donated to a charity shop where I'd picked up a Remoska - It's as good for getting fat out of things, and easier to clean (I put some stale bread in to gather up most of the fat - and the sparrows go crazy for it!)

The absoilute worst, though, was the automatic onion chopper. I was going through a chutney phase, the only problem was the onions as my eyes start running the moment I cut an onion, so a frind gave me this chopper thing. It kept jamming... and then I got far more onion smell/tears cleaning it out!
