Unused kitchen gadgets

I've only used my slow cooker about two or three times. I've found that I really prefer using a pressure cooker and doing things quickly, or else cooking stuff slowly in the oven.
I bought a pasta machine ages ago and have never used it, but we've been making pasta in class lately (I'm training to be a chef!) and I really enjoy it so I'll be using it in the future definitely.
I bought an ice cream machine in the January sales and used it once... trouble is I never seem to have space in the freezer to put the bowl. It's always on my 'to do' list.
The bread machine has been relegated to the garage as I just make it by hand these days.
Apart from that I use all my bits and bobs. I love my Kenwood Chef, but I also have a hand mixer and I prefer that for smaller amounts. I have a Kenwood food processor too which I find incredibly useful for all sorts of things. I make lots of soup so my hand blender is great for that. And my pressure cooker is high up on my list of favourite kitchen stuff.
I could do without all of it though if I really had to, as long as I had a big sharp cook's knife and some decent saucepans0 -
Breadmaker I bought, used a handful of times & it's been in the cupboard since, the one peice of kitchenware that is in constant use is my 3 tier steamer!! Awesome bit of kit!!0

....:o confession, I have a brand new, stiil in box, pressure cooker and I'm scared to use it.
Oooh, can I have it?!.... I would love a kitchenaid machine but can't justify the cost.
I can't justify either the cost or the weight gain from all the baking I would do!!
Most useless gadget - all chucked out:
Breville
Microwave
Deep-fat fryer
Ex-husband
Infrequently used:
Pasta maker - does get used by OH about every 3 -4 months
Fondue set - hasn't been out of the cupboard since it was fitted 4 years ago
Blini pan - it's good for solo omelettes!
Breadmaker - don't eat so much of the stuff nowadays
Double-sided griddle (ribbed & smooth) - fab for asparagus & salmon, but very smoky!
Favourite gadget:
Le Creuset casseroles - 2 small, 2 large, classic orange....£8 from a car boot
My wish list consists of a social kitchen big enough to eat in, a Kitchenaid, a 6-ring hob, and the metabolism to cope with the extra cooking / baking / tasting that would inevitably occur :rotfl:0 -
Number 1 scary gadget is a pressure cooker followed by a deep fat fryer. Like another poster said I was too scared of the fat fryer, all that bulumphing and peroffing. I think mine was used twice. I only paid £10 for it in Asda as I suspected it would be a flash in the pan!!!
I am a terrible gadget freak. Have breadmaker, Kenwood (given but never used), blender, food processor (forgotten how to assemble it), pop corn maker, george foreman, 3 yogurt makers (love those dinky jars) and 2 Easi yo flasks.
Electric chopper, coffee grinder (for spices) and various other electrical bits and bobs that escape me now.:o
I use them rarely but will not chuck them out as I know if I do, I will decide that I really really need them all over again.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

I know what you mean...OH bought a really good set of knives 5 years ago which get sharpened every Christmas, and we spent a small fortune in John Lewis a couple of years ago, buying a full set of S/S saucepans - tiny sauce pan up to saute pan & casserole, to go with the S/S stock pot & 2-tier steamer we already had.
The only problem we have now is that the tiny kitchen is too small for "proper" cooking with all the pans out :rotfl:0 -
I have 2 slow cookers, one big one little, that I only ever use for gammon joints and rice pudding. I much prefer to slow cook in the oven as the food seems to taste so much nicer, my OH complained that everything cooked in the slow cooker tasted the same.
I don't use my sandwich maker anymore, it's much easier to use toastabags or the george foreman.
The juicer has gone in the bin, it cost a fortune for all the fresh fruit and a nightmare to clean.
I go through phases of using the electric steamer every day then it stands unused for weeks.
Two things I wouldn't be without are my stick blender and the pizza maker, they get used at least once a week and would be replaced straight away if they broke.
For those wanting a popcorn maker have a look on Ebay or car boot sales as they tend to be bought as gifts and never used. We use ours regularly, the dog stands waiting for the odd one that comes shooting out of the top!Dum Spiro Spero0 -
I have a pressure cooker from when we got married (14 yrs ago ) that I'm too scared to use.
A breadmaker that just turns out stodge, a steamer and a pop corn make that sit in the back of the cupboard and a slow cooker that hasn't been used in years.
The only thing I use often is the value electric whisk that cost a couple of quid. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
MrsBartolozzi wrote: »Waffle maker - I can't get it to make decent waffles, just dimpled pancakes that burn on the outside while still raw in the middle. I've tried different recipes with no luck
.
I have a De Longht Argento Waffle Maker and I use this recipe with it:150gr melted butter or oil
350gr SR Flour
2 Eggs
350ml milk
Mix all the ingredients together to form a smooth batter. It is easy to make half the mixture for smaller families.
I find the recipe excellent and really enjoy the waffles. Perhaps it's one you're not tried?
I have stacks of coffee makers I don't use - always go back to the filter machine. Oh and the smoothie maker isn't really used either

I have an electric steamer that I wouldn't be without, a toaster, a george health grill thingy that i use a lot, a smoothie maker, a SC , microwave that I hardly ever use but in laws bought it for me, a juicer I have used twice, and I threw out my deep fat fryer 2 years ago it made this bang noise and the fat just kept pouring over the top:eek: scared the life out of me and never had one since.
I have a bread maker that i use a lot but would really like to get an Easi yo yoghurt maker but not sure if I would use it if i did buy one:o:jmember of the thrifty gifty 2011 :j0 -
lol i'm terrible - not for buying useless rubbish gadgets for the kitchen but for having people insist on buying them for me!!
Popcorn maker - ex bought it for my birthday - the popcorn tasted awful and burnt before popping!!!
Cow shaped toastie maker - very well used actually but a pain to clean and the moo-ing noise drove me mad!!! (only ever used it to make nutella toasties.... prob best i don't have those anymore lol!!)
God knows how many health grills... good but a pain in the bum to clean so often god thrown out due to high levels of ming (during my student days where i was an idiot with money:eek:)
Smoothie maker - Mum bought it for herself and never used it, gave it to me i tried make a milkshake the other day to find it was thick with ming from being sat in a cupboard since the dawn of time. Once cleaned and scrubbed up it then just didnt work. Bin job!
Chocolate fountain... my bf's mum got it me for Xmas and i can tell it cost her a lot - i feel awful but it'll never get used and will end up on ebay when i can be bothered! I always think the chocolate tastes disgusting anyway when they have them in restaurants and parties, it's not proper chocolate bleuurggh!! What is the point of the things anyway?!
However my fav that was handed down from me Nan - or rather it was one of her useless gadgets that i pinched due to being obsessed with it as a kid - don't worry she knows i pinched it lol. An 70's ice crusher - i love it and keep it in its very cheesy retro original box! We use it loads in the summer - hard work turning that handle for shave all the ice but it brings back memories and cocktails are lovely with crushed ice - like a slush puppy!
On a similar note i would love a Soda Stream!! I used to love making them and all the flavours...do they still exist? Maybe Nan will let me pinch her's if she still has it!0
