I have an electric hand whisk I wish I hadn't bought, as a few weeks later we bought the Kenwood. A friend recently bought me an electric knife, not sure I'll use it as I have excellent normal knives.

I love my Kenwood Prospero, as its many useful gadgets in one, as it has the blender and food procesor attachments as well as the food mixer bit. Normal stuff after that, kettle, toaster, electric steamer (well used here), smaller MR slow cooker, a sandwich toaster we use in fits and starts.

I think it depends on your style of cooking really, I enjoy big cook ups and cook for the freezer alot. We also entertain fairly frequently, so what I have gets used.

I succumbed to an in-store demonstration for one of those plastic mandolines with multiple blades that makes coleslaw for the 5000 in thirty seconds.

    I don't actually ever buy fresh veg .. :o

I have a massive slow cooker from OHs mam which I used maybe twice, I'm too impatient to wait all day for a meal plus I have a really big pan which is perfect for making soups and stews and things in anyway.

A George grill which gets used once in a blue moon to make toasties on.

A stick blender which I love and use regularly for smoothies and soups, but I'd like to upgrage to a normal blender as the stick just doesn't work for some things.

I was very close to buying a doughnut maker near Christmas and regret not getting it, even though I know it would have been used about twice since then.
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

Dissenters should post more on the gadget threads - you could save people £££'s. Honestly, if you read the slow cooker threads you'd think slow cookers would single-handedly create world peace and find the Holy Grail! I can't stand the things:D

Maybe it's time to have one last go at the gadgets before they get freecycled/ebayed?

My pressure cooker is possibly one of my most used gadgets and not scary at all - my Easiyo hardly gets used at all. Tried for ages to make yoghurt without the sachets and got nowhere.

I'd rather not - and anyway my OH wouldn't be happy, and neither would the ex's new wifey!!:rotfl:

I bought one of the electric yoghurt makers from Lakeland (not Easiyo) and have not bought yoghurt since. DH says it tastes exactly like the Yeo Valley yoghurts he likes.

I love hearing about other pressure cooker fans! They are so underrated. Mine is only a cheap aluminium one, I want a new stainless steel one, but I love it. It's especially useful when you have a craving for rice pudding at 10pm :rotfl:

On a similar note i would love a Soda Stream!! I used to love making them and all the flavours...do they still exist? Maybe Nan will let me pinch her's if she still has it! :p

They certainly do still exist - but it'd be no good pinching your Nan's old one. They recently revamped the design and now you can't get the gas cannisters for the old style machines. Instead you have to shell out £60+ for the new machine plus all the extras. I have declined their kind offer and my old Soda Stream (which I used several times a day to carbonate water to jazz up fruit juice etc.) is now useless. I am not impressed.

Pressure cookers, on the other hand - I have my Grandma's old pressure cooker which was given to her as a wedding present. That makes it about 70 years old . It still works perfectly but has none of these fancy modern extras like variable pressure or relief valves. It can be quite an experience cooking with it :D. I think it's survived so long because Grandma never used it, it terrified her. She gave to my Dad when he got married and Mum gave it to me when I left home.

Woohoo chip pans live! Thanks guys!

I forgot about the pressure cooker, if I ever end up with more than just me to regularly cook for I simply must get one and get my mum to teach me how to work it. She's used one as long as I can remember and it seems so good, a load of your veg getting done on the one ring. She also sometimes takes the insides out and uses it as a giant pan for soup and stew.

Hehe, my pressure cooker has none of the mod cons either - it has a lid, a gasket, a weight on top, one pressure and to release the pressure you either take it off the heat and leave it for ages or put it under the cold tap :) It hisses loudly and shoots out steam. I'd like one with variable pressure but the hissing has never bothered me.
