it is not upto BA or any other company to entertain / look after your kids, that's the job of parents.

You have obviously not been on a 11 hour flight with 2 young children.
If it wasn't for the entertainment system I would have aged a few years, as it was - plug 'em in and forget they were with us until we land.
Does that make me a bad parent?
....or would you prefer my little darling's to play peek-a-boo with the person sat in front for 11 hours about they get bored with the colouring books and my feeble attempts at being a Redcoat?

Do you have children? If you do then they must be the most compliant children that ever lived.

yes i do and that is why I chose a mode of travel that ensures comfort for my child and not rely on airlines etc. to do a parents job.

But if the OP chose to fly BA rather then another airline on that route because they had IFE, which would occupy their kids, they have been taking care of them - have they not?

I doubt the OP choose BA because they offered IFE.

I have just come off a short flight where a 2/3 year year old screamed almost non -stop for half the journey because she didn't want to wear her seatbelt.I ended up with a splitting headache,I don't think there is a lot you can do in that situation, but on the return flight, the father had a portable dvd player-child seemed a lot calmer...

One of the sales pitches of a lot of airlines is their IFE. If they use it to say "fly with us" then you are quite rightly !!!!ed if they don't deliver! BA isn't cheap... you should get what you paid for...

I once took emirates and had a dodgy IFE and my mother had a slightly akward seat. They gave us both free flights (identical to what we had) and my mother also got a free upgrade voucher on any emirates flight (if available). Another friend had a similar compensation from etihad. These were IMO, fair compensation.

£25 is not only ridiculous but an insult to their customers. All of you should have had a free flight voucher. I suggest contact watchdog or something similar...seriously! The one thing all companies hate is bad publicity. But please pursue the case.. for all consumers' sake!

exactly, the parent made sure their child had everything they would need / make them comfortable, they did not rely on anyone else like the airline.

I was on a flight where one of the engines caught fire on take off, we were delayed by 4 hours. There was no talk of or question about getting compensation., these things happen. Non working IFE hardly compares.

Well,no,not really, thats not my point.
On the BA flight the OP expected the child to be catered for, when we hand over our money,we DO expect to get an appropriate level of service,or get some money back..

By that logic, should I suggest you were an ill-prepared traveller who should have carried a spare engine in their suitcase?

A few yeas ago, after getting no joy from the travel company,I took them to the small claims court and got three quarters of the cost of my holiday back.
This was because,as I was driving to the airport(gatwick),they phoned me to tell me to go from Heathrow instead, thus throwing my plans into disarray.I had two kids in the car with me.Are you saying I could have predicted that?It was quite stressfull, and I think i claimed for what is called "loss of enjoyment"( I could be wrong,it was a few years ago now).

The difference is, BA is run as a business, Emirates is a full size toy set owned by an oil Sheikh.

My children never watch the IFE, they are so stuck into their own things. PSP, DS lites, books etc... In fact on our last flight they already had the films on DVD and weren't interested.
Flying long haul surely children have more with them anyway? What do you do in the departure lounge for 3 hours??
All you need are spare charged batteries and they're away!

It was better that they offered up front, rather than hoping to get away with nothing.

The last time I flew I cannot remember them being strapped in the seats at the departure lounge but were free to wander - maybe it has changed.
