It would be unusual for a child to qualify for the same amount of compensation as an adult (even though they were arguably more upset by the inconvenience), so I would not be surprised if they offered you half the adult amount for the children.

Remember that, unless it is stipulated in your contract that IFE will be provided, you are asking for compensation over and above your contractual rights. Therefore do not be surprised if they are not willing to offer a great deal more.

Though IFE is much more commonplace than five/ ten years ago, it is still not a given that all flights will have it. For instance, I flew with Delta ten days ago, and was pleasantly surprised that they have personal entertainment systems, as many of their planes still do not.

BA quite clearly detail on their website what you get in all cabin classes.

IFE is provided in all classes on BA.

The OP flew in (presumably) WT and this would be a 747 on this route.

WT as standard has personal seat-back entertainment system with personal video screen.

I have obviously missed a trick here. When we flew back from America with Virgin, the inflight entertainment was not working for the duration of the 9 hour flight. Must admit, it never occurred to me to ask for compensation

Sorry its not a trick, we were told off the Pursor on the flight to claim (the whole plane)

I recently flew on business with BA and on one leg of the journey (Sydney to Bangkok) had no IFE - we got a little card to fill in for either £75 duty-free voucher or 15000 airmiles. I took the miles. [This was Business class, not sure if that makes a difference]

On a flight to Florida (with TravelCity Direct) the IFE wasn't working , we were offered £25 worth each off the duty-free trolley, including my 10 year old son. That was in their "Sunshine First".

It seems that (from my experience of 2 occasions) compensation is normally offered, but does it only get offered to non-Economy passengers?

As I generally just read I would happily have it not working and take the money every time. :money:
    Not even wrong

We went to the states on a 10 hour flight when I was 12, and my brother 10. If it wasn't for the films, my dad would have had no hair left by the end of the flight, as asking a child to sit in a seat and not run around for 10 hours is near impossible, and it places a LOT of stress on the parents to constantly keep their kids entertained.

I would say £25 EACH and in cash would be the minimum compensation. Did BA provide all the kids onboard with anything like puzzles, colouring in books etc...?

it is not upto BA or any other company to entertain / look after your kids, that's the job of parents.

Ah but the parents passed part of that responsibility to the airline who promised in return for money to provide inflight entertainment. The airline failed to provide that entertainment and therefore did not fully meet their end of the deal.

It makes it a lot easier on the other passengers if the kids have something to distract them and occupy them.

You could try posing a question on the BA section of the forum Flyertalk also.

Do you have children? If you do then they must be the most compliant children that ever lived.

But if the OP chose to fly BA rather then another airline on that route because they had IFE, which would occupy their kids, they have been taking care of them - have they not?
