We are looking for insurance for travel to USA, needs to cover booking each bit of the holiday independantly and offer decent cover. Any ideas where to start looking? I`ve heard that AA and Post office may be worth looking at. also want to make sure we are covered for as much as possible especially with what is happening to the poor holiday makers at the moment with the volcanic ash!

I`ll be grateful for any advice you can offer

M&S Premier cover includes independant traveller cover as standard. It ain't cheap, but it's the same as the JohnLewis GreenBee policy (both with Axa) but GreenBee are dearer to start with and want £30+ to add Independant Traveller cover.

I have a package holiday booked with virgin holidays (TCD) in June. As there is speculation that this Ash issue could go on for months I have been worrying about my insurance. My first worry is losing the holiday as we have saved for a year for this and would be gutted. Am I worrying unnecessarily as apparantly I would be offered the option to take my holiday at a later date as it is a package? Therefore no insurance claim would be needed?

My second worry is that if it happened whilst we were away we could not afford to finance an extra week in florida for accomodation, food and car hire. Would virgin be responsible for this aswell? Thanks.

Yes to both. That's the big advantage of a package holiday - if it gets cancelled before you depart then you get a full refund or the chance to rebook.

If a problem happens during the trip then once you've checked in at the departure airport then you're in their hands and they have a legal duty to take care of you until they get you back again at the end of the holiday.

    Hi everyone

    All help welcome

Does anyone know anywhere that can insure myself and my girlfriend for 12 months continuous travel around the world inc USA etc.

I have pre exisiting condition which is high blood pressure and currently on 2 tablets and its under control.

Cheapest quote so far for the whole trip is 295 from insure and go which is expensive although ive had over a 1000 from all clear and the other big places. But if anyone knows anywhere else that could help let me know as I go in June for the World Cup

    Cheers in advance

£295 is actually pretty cheap for 12 months worldwide cover
  • I agree, especially with pre existing conditions(albeit only HBP). Is this the couple rate? I would say you wont get it any cheaper x

I obtained annual worldwide travel insurance for two people to include my pre-existing condition (asthma) for £65 with Flexicover.

But I'm not too happy with them right now as I had a flight on Monday which looks unlikely to take off, and Flexicover say they won't be paying out due to this volcano thing - even though many others are........
  • Hi don't know if anyone can help with this - my husband is stucik in USA with no personal insurance - went out with a company to a conference who paid for the flights and covered the insurance, etc. - they are now backing out so he's fending for himself - no pre existing medical problems but he would like to have insurance just in case anything happens - have checked the comparison websites which are fine but the small print all says cannot be used if already started a journey - any ideas?? :o
