I am an expat living in an EU country (Cyprus). Can anyone recommend a reasonable insurance for me? Most of my holidays are spent in the Uk and yes, I do have EHIC but, as has been said, it doesn't cover for luggage, repatriation etc.
You cannot buy travel insurance from the UK - All travel policies are conditional on travel beginning and ending in the UK.
Google/Ask.com UK ex-pat policies and you should find something - I have found them to be very expensive - Have you tried a Cypriot Broker (I assume they have them)?
Seems like a question for DACOUCH - he/she may help - a broker - and a good one!C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Bad Advice - you were in the wrong - see my post on your linked posting.
OTHER READERS - from my vast experience with travel insurance claimd Drakefield (and the AA) are as good as most (not top rated but far from bottom).
This poster has decided to blame the AA and Drakefield because they did not follow the T&C's of their policy (and in this case the T&C's of EVERY travel insurance policy).
Learn a Lesson - If something is stolen on Holiday you MUST report it to the Police and get a crime numbner/reference or your insurer will not pay out the claim. This is a condition of EVERY policy (that I've seen anyway).
As I said on my original thread, I think people who have dealings with any company whether positive or negative are allowed to let other people know their opinion? Surely that's the main reason why people view forums like this to find out other views before making their own mind up?
And I didn't have it stolen, I lost it and reported it to the police as soon as I had email confirmation from Drakefield that I needed to do so.
And yes it is my fault for not reading the policy but like a lot of other people I never thought I would have to make a claim, surely they couldv'e used their descretion.£400+ in my £2 coin tablet fund0 -
My appologies - as you said the IC wanted a Police number (as that is the norm with stolen) I thought when you said lost you meant stolen.
In that case you may have a claim and you should contact the FSA (Drakefield are authorized by the FSA) and ask the Ombudsman (phone 0845 080 1800) for advice. I don't think lost property legally MUST be reported to the Police and it would (in my opinion) be unreasonable for an insurance company to insist on something that would not otherwise be compulsory to report.
I know of certain police individuals or forces that would laugh at you reporting a "lost" ring to them.
But my point was that you should not complain when you did not read the T&C's and when it goes pear shaped blame the IC when we all know YOU SHOULD NEVER SIGN SOMETHING WITHOUT READING IT. What you are saying is that you did not do what you agreed to do then it is someone else's fault - very unfair.
I respect your opinion - you are entitled to say what you want - but so am I and precisely that anyone reading this can read both our posts and make their own mind up - toally agree with you there that is the whole point of the forum.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Hi Guys,
Tried to renew my annual worldwide insurance with pre existing conditions, been with the same insurer for over 6 years with 2 existing conditions and this time they won't renew. They were very helpful and it's not their fault that one of my conditions they say may have had a bigger percentage of claims this year, so they won't cover it. We went over the questions again to make sure I had answered them all correctly.
Anyway they put me on to a sister company All Clear (firstassistinsurance), they have given me cover for single trip only (couldn't offer annual) for me and hubby, (he has no existing conditions) at a cost of £203.
This was as much as I would have paid for annual.
Can I ask if anyone has used first assist and had to claim and were they okay.
I've never had to claim on my pre existing ever over the last 30 years that I've travelled.
The 2 conditions are: High Blood Pressure and Crohns Disease - with no ops, blockages or obstructions.
Should I try some other companies, I'm not looking for the cheapest only one that has a good reputation?
Cheers

DEBS - try my favorite Fortis Insurance (available with the Post Office) they tend to be more leinient with PEMC's. You'll need to call their medical screening people but worth a try.
First Assist have been OK with the claims that I have dealt with, although they could speed up their settlement procedure.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Thanks Chris,
I had a look on the website as I've seen your posts re Fortis.
My only concern is that I think they knocked me back on my current one because I take 2 pills for HBP and I noticed on Fortis website this is a question that if you say yes to taking 2 medications , they state they won't cover. Can the public deal direct with them or do you need to go through a broker?
Cheers

Here is the Post Office link - It's Fortis but other than that I think it's a broker - Youd better ask DACOUCH - has better advice where brokers are concerned.

Call them 0800 169 9999 and ask, although the website says 2 med = not covered - it may mean that they will cover at a cost or other conditions. They can only say no!C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the link and phone number.
I did contact them thank you.
I'm going to stick with First Assist as the premium they wanted was far much higher than First Assist. I know I said the cost wasn't the issue but it's high already and Fortis were so much more.
You have said they are okay, if they were like Axa I wouldn't hesitate.
Thanks for all the advice it is very much appreciated.
Cheers

Debras Angel, I have just renewed my annual policy with Columbus even though they had more than doubled the quote from last year, I found they were still the cheapest after trawling around all the other insurers, and I have pre-existing conditions.0
