Hi,
If you are a Tiscali broadband user and are still paying £24.99 a month for either 512k or 1MB line, then you are wasting money.
You can now change your tariff, I did it today and now I am paying £15.99 a month for a 1MB Unlimited (or so they say) connection, instead of £24.99
I would recommend getting upgraded to a 1MB connection if you are 512k (and if it's possible in your area).
Check your settings in your account area by going to:
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/members/myaccount
It's quite easy and straight forward to change.
You would have hoped Tiscali would automatically put you on the lower price, but they don't. So do it yourself.

Just out of curiousity - when you switch packages, do they lock you into a new 12 month contract? I couldn't find this info on their website.0

Its very easy to switch to Tiscali. My problem was with NTL and trying to cancel my contract with them.
In May, I saw that Tiscali were offering 1MB broadband for £15.99 with smartalk free, which gives you reduced rate calls. I signed up. A week after I was all signed up and running on broadband, they reduced it to £14.99 a month! My bills are around £35 a month though as they charge for downoading AND uploading!! They are now offering an automatic upgrade to unlimited broadband usage and free calls at an extra £4 a month, now going to cost £19.99. Cant complain there (yet?)
Anyway, I got an email on 6th June from NTL saying that they were going to upgrade me for free to their CPS service on the telephone line. I emailed them straight back saying that I had just signed up with another ISP, that I didnt want the CPS service and to take my email as notice to cancel my contract (which I had had for over 3 years with no problems at all on dial up, at a mere £15 per month with £15 per month of free voice calls by dialling a prefix number. The new CPS service was to offer me a service that eliminated the dialling of the prefix number, which is great but they couldnt offer me broadband in my area!)
Anyway, I got an automated reply the same day stating that they would respond as soon as....
10th June, I email them saying that I am still waiting for a response. I got a response same day saying that due to data protection and because I would have to answer security questions such as my mother's maiden name, blah, blah, I couldn't cancel by email but had to ring their 0870 number.
The billing number is only available during 9am and 5pm (during my working hours) All I got was the multiple options and being on endless hold so I gave up.
My July direct debit went out of the bank so I deleted it via my bank online service, bearing in mind, I am being charged since May by Tiscali so, why should I pay ntl for nothing?
In August, I get a letter from them saying that they couldnt retrieve my August direct debit payment and would I ring the 0870 number.
Several attempts later and with my boss giving me 'Are you sciving' glances and I feel guilty for using the work phone to dial the 0870 number at 8p a minute. I give up again.
On August 27th I sent another email explaining my dilemma of not being able to get through as being at work meant I could not hang on hold for too long a time and the cost, etc, etc. I give them my mobile number and ask them to call ME, also informing them that I had cancelled my direct debit at the bank.
I got a reply the next day saying that cancelling the DD does not cancel the contract. Would I please ring the 0870 number OR write to ntl freedom to cancel, quoting the full address and a list of 0870 numbers!
WHAT??
My fingers poised over the keyboard, my temper flaring, I compose a letter asking;
1) Why wasnt I told in June that I could cancel by letter and,
2) What is the difference between a letter by email and and a letter by post?
The next day, I try to access my online ebill to see if they have been charging me anything (remember Tiscali are charging me now) but for some reason it keeps telling me my details are wrong (I mention this in the letter).
I have POP mail set up to my yahoo account and I get the emails duplicated there so I can still read them. Dammit, if I didnt get a Customer Satisfaction Survey email on the 30th of August saying that they had on record that I had been served by James on the 28th at 7.40am. Did I? I dont recall being 'served' by anyone let alone James, not on the 28th and certainly not at 7.40 am.
My letter is in the post, together with copies of all the emails to and fro, accusing them of stalling tactics and demanding a reply saying that my account is cancelled and cleared.
I'm still waiting..... :whistle:0 -

Hi there
Please beware! I too had trouble cancelling with NTL. I emailed, and then after they would not accept the email cancellation (even though that is the way that we entered the contract). I then wrote to them in Wales and also to their HQ in England. They told me that they did not receive the letter and the issue went on and on. Now, being a good reader of this Board, I got the local MP involved and he wrote to the Managing Director of NTL. However, they just would not waver, there was no sense, nor customer friendly tactics. In the end I asked legally for an opinion, and the advice given was for the sake of £53......pay it and forget. I am now with Tiscali and even though they have their faults, they are not as bad as NTL. My advice....get out asap and move on, and use Recorded Delivery for everything that you do with them.
Regards

 I have been paying nearly £ 25 amonth for 1mb, rang them and they say i can "upgrade" for 15 quid a month but with another 12 month contract. This doesn`t seem fair since it has been £16 since Dec 04 and £15 since May Any advice on what I should do. CS adviser said it had only been less than £25 fora few weeks but since reading this post I know different. Over charged by nearly £80 quid GRRR....0

I started subscibing at £15.99 with 2 meg download limit (never exceeded) a while ago. I have now changed my package online to the new great deal. But it's up to you to keep looking for the bargains as Tiscali don't change you automatically.0

https://www.f2s.com is a proper ISP with only 1 month contracts with migration , unfortunately Tiscali who masquerade as an ISp will not allow migrations or sign up to the migration code , WHY ?
Because like most Multinationals they treat customers with contempt and regard them as fools to be fleeced .
Go here for unbiased views and to read user opinions, it may just open your eyes .

Hear hear shammy.
Here's something I bet you didnt know, which points fairly and squarely at how much they value their customers.....they have an email address called complaints@uk.tiscali.com (or something similar) which is a part of their published complaints escalation procedure......ie if youre not happy with the !!!!!! customer service provided by the offshore muppet team, you can escalate to someone in England.
This mailbox has an autoresponse saying "we take all complaints seriously and we will contact you within 10 days" or something similar, and guess what..........no c'mon guess..........oh OK I'll tell you..........they ignore it!!!
A real steaming pile they are.illegitimi non carborundum0
