I'm getting a breadmaker!!

i am debating it as a christmas present for us0

I've had my Panasonic (the one with the seed and nut dispenser) for three months now and it has been one of the best gadgets I've ever bought.
The bread is far superior to the shop bought, "sticks-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth" variety and my family can't get enough. My plan was to build up a stock of bread in the freezer for school lunches but so far I haven't managed to get a loaf anywhere near the freezer before someone has started on it.
As for the dispenser - it doesn't add seeds and nuts to the top of the bread but drops them into the mix before the bread is baked so that they are evenly distributed. I make the spicy fruit loaf every couple of days - a hot cross bun flavour but much lighter and not so guilt inducing when you slice it a bit thinner. (however half a loaf is half a loaf no matter how thin the slices are!!) I'd recommend the dispenser if you want to bake fruit loaves without having to stand over the machine all day.
Thanks to everyone who recommended this breadmaker - it's certainly not going to be a novelty that wears off in this house0 -

If you want to get hold of fresh yeast, I've heard that Polish delicatessens are a good place to look. Not entirely sure why...0

Our local Morrison's sells fresh yeast, around 20p-odd for a poly tray with about 100g in, but we always use the dry stuff now.
Incidentally, we also had the problem with a Morphy Richards BM not always rising - turned out to be where we were keeping the sachets of yeast before use, it was getting warm sometimes, it was in a cupboard near a toaster. Since moving the yeast to somewhere cool, we've had no problems.
The Morphy Richards BM is our second machine, and makes bread much better than the old one we had. I agree with the other poster that the recipes in the booklets tend to be sweet, just alter them to taste... you just have to remember that the sugar helps the bread rise, so add a little more yeast, or cut the salt - excess salt also stops the yeast working.0 -

If your husband likes bread with sundried tomatoes in it's definitely worth going for the one with the dispenser.
I love my Panny I use it at least every other day and the novelty hasn't worn off. even if it did I wouldn't be allowed to go back to buying breadIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
I tried to buy the 253 yesterday and also found it was sold out in Currys. Phoned the local branch and they said they would only price match if it was available on line at the time so no joy there. It wasn't much more expensive in Comet, but the free 5-7 day delivery option only gave me the choice of 8 or more days later.
I'm holding out for the curry's one to become available again. And 5% off? How do I do that? My friend has a staff discount for currys but it can't be used on line and it's much more expensive in the shop.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

I just put "currys promotional code" in a search engine and then just kept trying each one until I found one that still worked. Sorry I cannot be more specific but I cannot remember which one I used.0 -
After reading a different breadmaker thread on this site, I bought the Morphy Richards Fastbake (Chrome one) breadmaker. Apparently this one and the Panasonice SD253 got joint ratings in the Which? magazine as best buy, but the Morphy Richards is cheaper. It also has a drop down paddle, which means that the hole in the bottom of the baked loaf is only very small.
I bought mine on Ebay for £22 inc. postage. It's fab, I love it and have baked a loaf every day since I got it. It's easy to clean and makes gorgeous bread.
