    Oh Alexie LOL :wall:
  • I couldn't go back to shop bought bread now. I have the Russell Hobbs Ultimate with a nut dispenser. I love making the fruity loaves too - at £1 for a shop bought small fruit loaf alone, the BM will recoup it's costs even quicker.

My recipe book says add 1 1/2 tsp salt but I never put more than 1/4 tsp in. It doesn't affect the taste or how the bread rises (I keep the given amount of sugar the same)It's just lovely and scrummy - mmmmmmmmm, must go and load the BM up soon.
  • I don't know that the difference is between dried or fresh yeast but I have been told that supermarkets will give you free yeast from the bakery department. I havn't tried it myslef as I don't have a bread make (YET), can anyone confirm if this is true?

I have the Panasonic 253. I bought it from ebay for £57 and I love it to bits. I put it on the timer at night and the fantastic smell encourages me out of my pit every morning! It certainly isn't an unused gadget in my home.

  • Just wondering why is the Panasonic going cheaper nearly everywhere.
Could it be because Panasonic is producing a new model with...JAM-MODE?!!
  • I have had my panasonic for about 3 years now and use it a lot. Before that I had a Morphy Richards and the bread was horrible, very sweet and yeasty. The Panasonic is so much better (even my old version). I buy Allinson Easy Bake Yeast 125g at Co-op. It keeps in the fridge and lasts me for months. I reckon it works out about half the price of the sachets of yeast that you get in most shops. (I don't think you can use fresh yeast in the machine, but I might be wrong!)
I also use Wright's Ciabatta mix and make up the dough in the machine and finish it in the oven. Otherwise I make lots of bread. You will love your machine, just keep all the ingredients together on a shelf near the machine, otherwise wandering around the kitchen every time getting all the ingredients will put you off. (That could just be me of course being lazy!)
Enjoy......off to put a loaf on for the morning
No idea how many £2 coins as they are in a big tin.....but at least £20 since Christmas. :j

Thanks, I didn't realise that the dispenser only put stuff on the top, I thought that it maybe mixed things in at the end so they didn't get too chopped up in the mix etc. I may change my wishlist for the cheaper version now.
Well maybe it does, but I am sure you can download the instruction book online from the Panasonic website and double check this.

Whatever the nut dispenser does, I'd still advise you to think very carefully whether you will ever use it or not. I KNOW I wouldn't as I only want to make basic bread.
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • I too have a Panasonic 253 - wonderful machine. I guess I make 2 loaves a week on average, mainly granary. I did try to make the "white three cheese" loaf but only had cheddar in the fridge, so I used three times the amount - it was very very tasty... :rotfl:

  • My husband thinks we'd use the nut dispenser a lot as my son and he are bread crazy so we'll be making lots of different kinds for variety and almost always overnight.

Oh, now I've finally got enough money and I've decided which one to get I'm so frustrated at waiting for currys to restock!

In the meantime, I've been making mean savoury muffins with leeks and courgettes. I make a batch of 12 and my husband and son have wolfed half of them down before they're properly cooled. My dieting will power is definitely being put to the test!
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

My breadmaker together with the Kenwood Smoothie maker are the two gadgets always in use in our house. I bought the breadmaker from Tesco (Goodman's) for £30 and it has nut dispenser etc etc and the bread is wonderful. Try Tesco or Wrights packet bread mix. Put the water in first then add packet. Press the buttons and that's that! Easy........................and lovely too!
