    hello Tom :)

I've read on one of the other Panasonic threads* that the worry about adding seeds along with the other ingredients is that they'll scratch the non-stick coating & reduce its efficiency

however, some users have posted that they've been adding seeds at the start & their bread pans haven't suffered at all,
I don't have personal experience of using the Panny this way, so can't actually vouch for it (I think that was a disclaimer ;))
those posts were made before the new models with the tougher non-stick went on the market, so I'm guessing the newer models will stand up quite well

    * sorry I can't provide a link, but the main Panasonic thread is too long to look through, & the info might well be on another thread

PS ... there's a good tried & tested seeded loaf recipe on the previous page :D

Sorry to jump on to your thread but after searching I saw a lot of breadmaker threads and thought the regulars may get tired of seeing another one...lol so I thought I would pop my question here if that is ok :)

I am looking to invest into a breadmaker, after keeping receipts to see where our money is going we found we spend a stupid amount on shop brought bread...but when popping out to get bread we usually end up buying more then just that :(

I really need advice, I am looking between:

    Panasonic SD-256WXC
    or
    Kenwood BM450

I need honest opinions please, I will be using it to make bread for lunches, for bread in the day..e.t.c ( it will be used a lot as my son is packed lunch at school) and maybe the odd "posh" loaf for me ;) I am also looking to be able to "knock up" the odd cake in it if possible?

Thank you for any input you are able to give.

    Hi

I am looking at getting a Panasonic bread maker. I love seeds in my bread so thought I would get the new 257 bread maker with fruit and seed dispenser. This means I don’t need to sit around and add the seeds when the machine beeps.

What I was wondering is can you still make seedy loaves by adding the seeds at the start during the dry mix. Does the bread still come out ok. If it does then I can save about £50 and get the 256 without seed dispenser.

    Any help welcome

    Tom

    Tomloaf,
I've recently bought a 257, and I've mainly used bread mixes which need the rapid bake cycle, which doesn't include an auto-dispense option. So following advice here I added poppyseeds at the beginning - just sprinkled them on the top before adding water - and it worked well with the seeds evenly mixed through the whole loaf. I can't see any scratching in the pan, but I suppose that's a risk you have to be prepared to take.

The Panny all the way :D I luuuuurve my Panny.

You need to line the pan for cakes which I find too much of a faff, so just do normal ones.

Can someone please help me here quickly with a few basic questions?

My mum got my hubby and me a breadmaker for Christmas, it's a cookworks breadmaker the one that comes with 12 different bread options..

That aside, if I use normal milk instead of powdered milk, is it like for like or do I have to add more or less fresh milk.

Which order do the ingredients go in? I'm one of these people that prefers step by step instructions especially the first time I am using something new and this one just comes with a list of typical ingredients for some of the different settings and that's it.

Do I add the water and yeast first or the flower first etc.

If I just want to try making a white load with my strong white bread flower, what temperature should the water be at (I don't have a thermometer so luke warm or hot will do)

Lastly I have some strong brown flower as well as I prefer brown bread, was wondering if anyone has a basic easy to follow recipe they could share with me quickly, sorry if recipes are posted elsewhere.

Thanks in advance for any replies, hopefully I get a reply soon as my hubby is chomping at the bit to try some bread I make (assuming the first loaf comes out ok)

Have only just read your question so you've probably made your loaf by now!

There is a thread on here for cookworks breadmakers which may help you. Go to the 4th sticky on page 1 called 'quick questions on anything' which will give you a link to 'quick questions on breadmaking' then on to 'the complete breadmaking collection' where you'll find cookworks in the alphabetical list.

I can't help much with the questions you asked as my machine is a panasonic which works differently from other makes, however, regarding the temperature of the liquid, I would say lukewarm as water too hot could kill the yeast.
