I'm getting a breadmaker!!

Not very interesting but I'm really excited after reading all the posts here. We are quite skint at the moment as we've just got married, but got some vouchers for the wedding and at the promise of freshly made pizzas and olive bread my hubby has agreed that we can use them to get the breadmaker.

It is the Panasonic SD253 which I've read good reviews of. Really excited about getting started!

I asume it will come with a recipe book, but does anyone know if you need fresh yeast or dried? Is it easy to buyin the supermarket?

Thanks!

I'm interested! Actually I'm sorely tempted myself after reading all the praise for breadmakers and have even had the same one as you on my Amazon "wishlist" for a week. (£86.21 is that how much you paid?) Yesterday I even went so far as to buy two packs of bread mix but I suppose I can always make it by hand if it comes to it. My main reasons for not getting one are not a lot of worktop space, kids that don't eat a lot of bread and me that does but needs to lose weight not put it on. Watch this space!! I may be too tempted to make loads and cakes too.

I've just 'upgraded' to the Panasonic 252 which was only around £60 from Amazon. I couldn't see that spending another £20 on the automatic nut and seed dispenser that I was never likely to use was money well spent. Seriously, are you going to add things to the top of your bread on a regular basis?

Mind you I had to send it back once as the lid didn't shut properly so my bread was lop-sided. New one came today and it looks OK!

Thanks, I didn't realise that the dispenser only put stuff on the top, I thought that it maybe mixed things in at the end so they didn't get too chopped up in the mix etc. I may change my wishlist for the cheaper version now.
  • I think it's very exciting AnnaV!

I was thinking about buying one for ages then found my mum had one in the garage that she never uses which I now have on 'long term loan'. How money saving is that!?
  • Ive had a bread maker for a few years now and I can assure you, the novelty wears off pretty quick. Whilst the taste of the bread seems popular at first you will find yourself craving a loaf of hovis within a few weeks. I have found that with the recipes I had with my machine that the bread is quite sweet. I found that the nicest things i made were to use the machine for making dough then removing the dough adding some honey and making into rolls for cooking in the the oven. With a little icing on top your children will LOVE YOU !!
Good luck and have fun with it !

  • Before you order from Amazon why not try Currys, I have just ordered one from them for £76.97 with free delivery, I also searched the web for a code and found a 5% one, I have just had my email to confirm it is on its way to me for £73.13!
I hope it is as good as everyone here says! We have a Morphy Richards which we bought for around £20 but you just never know if the bread is going to rise or not. Very frustrating!! After reading these post I convinced my DH that we needed the panasonic!!

Ooh glad I'm not as strange as I thought getting excited about it. The thing is we eat loads of bread, me for my breakfast and lunch and DH for every single meal (I think he'd live on bread and cereal if I let him ) He also has a soft-spot for the expensive varieties with olives and sundried tomatoes in which cost about £2 or £3 a go.

We also spend a fair bit on frozen pizzas as we both work full-time and DH works most weekends so quite often have lazy meals on Sunday evenings :D

Not sure how much it will be but vouchers are from John Lewis so suppose I'll be buying it there.

Well, we'll see...I'll report back in 6 months to let you know if it's been relegated to the back of the cupboard!

It was when I decided to order as well, but I kept checking and it was back in a couple of days.
