Workplace bullying - any advice?

It's oh so easy for the victims of bullying to be cast as 'weak' or 'unstable' and as you say, almost all of the time, the bullying is very subtle - designed to chip away and undermine the victim, without leaving a tangible trail back to the perpetrator.
Ceejay/Suzkin - I wasn't aware that a line-manager was actually allowed ANY contact with the employee if the sickness was due to bullying. This may have just been a guideline in the company where I used to work though, rather than law.
Even though I have mentioned it to HR in the past about the bullying I don't think that they were aware when I went of sick that was what it was for. My line manager certainly wouldn't call her treatment of me bullying - probably would claim I was incompetent and she was pushing me to achieve more!
I have now had an email from the HR Manager saying she had been on holiday and only just got my email. She was very sad that I was feeling so unhappy and that she had been thinking of me and missing me (we get on really well) and it was great to have a message of support. She said she is going to ring me to have a chat but I'm not sure what will happen after she has been into work this morning and spoken to the HR Adviser and my manager!
I have had a couple of very bad days this past week and the mornings seem to be the worst. I get better in the afternoon and early evening for a bit and then it all washes over me again. Despite having decided I must try and find another job, I am still feeling miserable and anxious and it seems that the tablets I'm on haven't even started to kick in yet! The chemist said at least 2-4 weeks!
I can, I think, see a light at the end of the tunnel but it feels like a long way off.
Thanks for your support.
