I have been with 18185 for some years now, but don't use the service very often, and my latest invoice was for just over £1.50. I had a DD set up and had an email from 18185 confirming this, except that there were no bank details shown on the email. Last week, I had an email from them saying that my bank had declined my DD, so I had to do a bank transfer. The bank told me that they didn't have a DD set up, but I'm sure they had had one previously. I set up a new DD on the 18185 website and it shows my payment details (sort code/account no). But the DD doesn't show up on my online bank DD list. Who should I contact? Very difficult to contact 18185.0

Some banks appear to delete DD payees from accounts if they've not been used for 12 months (more likely 13 months to cover annual payments) - could that account for the first part of your query?
As for the new DD not showing as a payee on your online account, how long ago did you set up the details with 18185?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi, I,ve used 18185/1899 for years with line rental with bt, BUT all calls and BB via aol.no probs, but BB was BT repackaged;
Just renewed 18 month contract, and let aol have landline, and calls and BB, LLU;;; now find 18185, numbers not recognised..Does aol/TT block 18185/1899?0 -
Yes, I believe they do (like almost all other line providers except BT).
In any case, even if you'd left your line rental with BT, AOL now uses BTW's WCLI offering to provide your calls package - which means you wouldn't have been able to use the 1280 prefix to 'hop back onto BT' to make the mandatory number of calls per month to avoid low usage charges and charges for Caller Display etc.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. When I originally let aol have BB+ phone, they stopped 1280, which I rang for free caller display, but they always allowed 18185,up until 6 weeks ago, and I let them have the lot.LlU.

Guys I have primus free evening and weekend calls, if I use 18185 during evening and weekends, do i get charged?
Also what time is classed as Evening, MSE Peak-time from Primus is 8-6pmThanks for the info, its just that my family uses the built in phone book and don't dial the number itself so I was going to change the numbers in there but that way any call they make will be billed by 18185 and the evening and weekend offer wont be taken into account.
I have told my family to dial 18185 during the mornings but I know what they are like.
I need that Orchid box or something of the sort but its not available anymore.
Hi abbas, without a programmable box, I would leave 18185 programmed into the built in phone book if your family are that forgetful. At least you will only pay 5p for any UK landline call, no matter how long. Chargeable Primus calls now have a setup fee of 12.9p and daytime rates are 7.9p/min.
Whenever you use 18185 you will be charged by them, not your line rental provider. This applies to any indirect access call whose code starts with a 1 (or when using an 0800/0808 number).0 -
For non-BT customers, 18185 has a 0808 (freephone) number. So Primus won't charge you.
But no escaping from the dreaded connection charges that the likes of 18185.co.uk make!.....................................................................
Secondly, you don't have to be a BT Retail customer to be able to dial 18185, but your line rental provider has to be using BT Wholesale Line rental.
If you are making a UK LANDLINE call dialing the 18185 prefix there is no per minute charge, unlike if you (have to) use the 0808 number 18185 will charge a per minute rate for all calls.0 -

(NB. the new DD will take a few days to get processed before it shows up).0 -
If you are on an LLU'd exchange (market 2 or 3) and you have your phone and broadband from one of the LLU providers (eg. TT, O2 etc) then indirect access codes prefixed by 1 will generally not be available.
Only BT WLR lines are obliged to provide access to such codes, eg. if you were on BT Retail and go to say Primus for Line Rental and to a different provider (eg. Plusnet) for Broadband, then you'll stay on a BT WLR line.
If you take Phone and Broadband from the same provider, some (eg. Primus) have LLU agreements with other providers and you are likely to be put on an LLU line, so check first when choosing your provider what line you will be on.
NB. 18185's 0808 number can be used, but there is a per minute charge for ALL calls billed by 18185 this way.0 -

This has now happened again. I tried to make a 18185 call but got a message to say I didn't have a DD set up. My online bank clearly show that I do have this set up, but when I went to look at my 18185 account, it just said my account was suspended, with no options show on how to rectify it. I tried to unsubscribe but can't do so because of the amount owing and an emai to them was responded to by saing my account did not have a DD set up. HELP:mad:0
