    Jay.

I can also give these services the thumbs up having used all of them.

As Edinburghlass points out 1899 are cheapest for 01/02 calls just 3p a call. But further savings can be made at evenings and weekends by registering with Primus Saver 2 for FREE E&W calls. See :http://www.planet-talk.co.uk/SaverProducts.aspx?source=saver

I looked at Primus but it does say all calls are subject to min connection of 4p? is this correct.

  • It means that all calls outwith your free call time will be charged at 4p minimum connection but this does not apply to the calls made in the evenings and w/ends if you have a free package for those calls.

Many thanks, I can not see how these guys work (Primus) could you advise if you are on them please.

EG do you dial a certain number for evenings and weekends ? or do they automatically route all your calls to them at these off peak times.

Also can this be set up with Direct Debit, should they ever need to take money I am guessing.

No prefix - it's a CPS provider so calls automatically go via them at all times unless, by using a prefix, you decide not (e.g. 1280 or 1899).

DD is their preferred method of payment.

I have this morning returned to BT for line rental from onetel. The transfer will take place on 15/2. How soon should I sign up for the 1899 service.

Now - and start using it now.

Also, sign up for call18185.co.uk straight away - and start using them for your UK mobile calls and (if you can't avoid making them) peak 0870 calls.

And, on 16/2/06, call 0800 036 0094 and sign up for Primus Saver Option 2 to get free evening and weekend calls to UK 01/02 numbers too.

  • I just wondered if anyone was using Discountdial yet? Martin recommends it as the cheapest for landline to mobile calls (2p/min). I had a look at Discountdial's site and the number Martin gives seems to be the number for dialing the US. The UK numbers are just above it on a v. long list of access numbers for different countries. I just wondered if it was a misprint in Martin's article or am I missing something?

I think the number you should be calling is 0844 462 23 23, wait for a voice prompt and then dial the mobile number you want (?with the international code or not - not sure!)

I'd put in the links but I don't know how to - sorry!

    Thanks

If there's been a BT landline in the property before, BT should reconnect for free (£11/month line rental) - then you'd pay 3p connection and 0p/minute to UK 01/02 numbers on 1899.
