Signing up for call1899/18866/18185

Hello Moneysavingexpert people.

I went on the TalkTalk forum yesterday and posted a question at 12:47pm, but still awaiting a response so decided to ask MS people instead.

I am on talktalk, and wanted to know If I can use 18185/18866/1899 on my talktalk phone line?

If I cant, is there a way around this (I know some providers block customers from using these cheap ways to make calls) ???

Can 1899 be used when you have a bt line and just pay the line rental but all calls go through with sky see speak surf?

Yes. 18185 and 18866 work too (if you have accounts with them).

The 1280 prefix to 'hop back onto BT' will not work though.

I wonder why 1899 don't make it clear on the site that it works through sky.. does it say anywhere on the site?

Its not my line its my daughters, shes moving house from one that has a bt line just for the line rental, sky broadband and tv but the calls go through the sky.

Shes taking the services with her and wasnt sure if to keep the calls with sky or let them go through bt now as they are offering the free 0845 numbers etc but if she does the sky will then go up by £5 for removing the calls via them. She can live with the 0845 numbers etc as she can use saynoto0870 but her boyfriend is going to China for 6 months to a year or more so I thought it a good idea for her to go through 1899 to keep costs down. If it definitely works with the sky calls she will probably keep that, shes just on free evening and weekend calls through sky

One more thing

I use 1899 myself, I'm on virgin media. Can I add my daughters landline number to my 1899 account so her calls will go through my account or doesnt it work that way?

When using it through sky calls only and bt landline do you have to dial the 08081 708708 number before the call or does it go through automatically?

Need to be sure that it can be used with sky calls because she has to tell them at bt what she wants when her service is booked to be moved to her new address, she has to inform them tomorrow

Also can anyone tell me if the rates through 1899/sky are as 1899/bt or or 1899/virgin media rates as the virgin media ones are usually higher

One really last thing..

If you have to dial a prefix to use any of the above numbers with bt/sky does it tell you exactly how much it is per minute before you procede (like it does on my virgin media one with 1899) as this way you are sure its going through properly

was because its sky calls through a bt line I wasnt sure if it was going to be classed as bt rates or not but I'm pressuming that its going to be bt rates now

Am I the only one who is a little confused by why call1899/18866/18185 still refer to “NTL/Telewest” and not Virgin Media – come on guys, get up to date – Virgin Media branding took over from NTL/Telewest in Feb. ‘07!!!

I'm with virgin & have free evening & weekend calls to landline nos only. I have to pay for 0845, 0870 & mobiles. 0800 calls are free.

I want to use an override provider & will only be making UK calls (mobiles, 0845, UK landlines etc), and NO overseas calls. I'm hoping that ill be able to call the non-prefix number that you have to use with virgin (ie 0880 number for 18185), for free under my talkplan!

My main question is - can you tell me if there is one stand out override provider that is best when you take out the overseas calling calculation?

http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php is probaly your best bet.:D Using their 0808 Freephone Access Number which is definitely free on Virgin Media Cable Phone service.

I currently have a BT line and calls package with free evning and weekends. Now, I've signed up to 18185.com just now because I want to reduce the cost of calling 08** numbers during the day during the week, am I right in thinking that by using 18185 to call these during the day during the week would be cheaper than calling directly through BT?

I think it is by my reckoning, but I wanted to check first.
