Hey its working ok now ! I switched Router off but left it off for 15 mins and i can log in now . Thanks Heinz
It's still baffling me though. Why should my laptop (running Vista) work, but my desktop (running XP) not?

But my desktop's working too now.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I dont like it that 1899 show the credit card 3 digit security code now on the back of card and yet hide the number of the card in the update details page.

Is anyone else having trouble logging into your account on 18185 ? 2nd day i still cant log in,its now saying "server too busy" i emailed customer services yesterday and they replied and said they could log onto my account ok and to try again but for me its still not working .

I can't log in either, the login page just keeps on returning blank, had this problem for a couple of days, I'm wondering if it's anything to do with the Windows Update last tuesday, I've never had a problem logging in before.

That's the same as I am using, Xp Pro on a desktop using IE7, 18185 is the only site I'm having trouble with, can log into my bank and credit card accounts with no problem, can also log into 18866 with no problem

Logging on from the 18185 homepage, and therefore in a separate browser window thereafter, worked OK for me yesterday night and just now.

I'm using Vista Business with latest updates and Firefox 3.0.8.

Update to logging in problem with 18185:

Now able to log in, instead of entering number as 012*** ****** , enter number as 004412*** ******, as you would for an international call from abroad, this worked for me!

Just phoned daughter from home phone using 18866 and on her phone the number said 0919912799100 instead of my number. Also the ring tone sounded different to me. On my phone it said I was dialling 18866 etc.

I phoned her from mobile and it said my number, also tried using normal BT without 18866 and it was fine too so it's happening through 18866.

Flummoxed... how do I block it/find the source?

This may be perplexing but I don't think it's anything to worry about. To be able to charge low tariffs, 18866 (and the others like it) route calls all over the place (literally all over the world) to take advantage of cheap routings with spare capacity.

I think you will find that this is what has caused this erroneous number to be displayed on this occasion although it won't always happen - it just depends on the particular routing used for that call. A few moments later and the call would probably have been routed another way and your number would have been displayed correctly.

I guess there are bound to be some minor shortcomings when one is getting such a good deal price-wise? Just tell your daughter that if she sees the 09199... number again then it's probably Mum calling!

Yes that's right, mostly you will show up as international on Caller Id's etc.

    Nothing to worry about :)
