The 18866 service has been down all weekend. I'm unable to make any calls on my landline via 18866, getting continual system busy tone (beep, beep, beep). It is exactly the same problem also with 18185.

I've emailed 18866 but no response. Anyone know what's going on?

Us too. We normally use 18185, but I tried 18866 ( old account but not closed down) and still can't make any calls. Wondered if I'd been knobbled by BT. Rang 1500 and eventually got a message about a serious fault in East London - cables damaged by 3rd party. Which might be it. I'm near Canterbury. GRRRR

We're in the Canterbury area too and haven't been able to use 1899 since the weekend. I thought it was a problem with our account with them so I emailed them and got this reply:

    Dear Customer,

BT is experiencing a major connection problem since this weekend. We do not know yet when this problem is solved. Please try again later. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused.

    Regards,
    Customerservice
    Nice to save.

Layla, Thanks. I just reported it to 18185, and as a fault to BT, no reply from either yet. As long as the cheap callers haven't gone bust! And I have a zillion calls to make as my car was rammed and is in a garage... sods law
  • Thanks for the comments guys. I'm in Essex. The fault seems to have been fixed sometime this afternoon.

(By the way, I think 18866 amd 18185 are run by the same company ..... as the websites, "welcome" voice on the phone, etc are very similar.)

They are as is 1899 but 18185 tends to be cheaper.

    Working fine here.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

1899 still not working for me either! Obviously Canterbury area is still affected. God knows what they've done - very annoying as I make most of my calls in the daytime and really begrudge paying BT's prices!
    Nice to save.

Although I don't recommend it because they only accept payment by debit or credit card, it might be worthwhile you opening a similar http://www.zerop.co.uk/ (1301) account.
