  • That's why they have a geo number - so people can use their inclusive mobile minutes. But as it's been years since I had a contract mobile,

I never use 18185 from my mobile however I have registered my mobile to use the 0208 number. can anyone confirm if o2 charge for this or it uses the existing minutes from my plan and I pay 18185 for the time. I was going to use it for calling abroad, 0845,0870 numbers from my mobile but these posts have scared me.

    can anyone confirm this

Calls to the 020 access number will come out of any inclusive minutes you might have with o2.If they run out o2 will charge you to call it.

18185 will just charge you a connection charge and the going rate for each call.

  • Hi,
Sorry if this has already been covered elsewhere in this long thread.
I have a BT landline but pay virgin for my calls. I'm anticipating making lots of 0845 calls to virgin since my broadband has gone AWOL. Can I use 1280 to direct the call through BT and then 18185 too to get the cheapest call rate?

    Thanks!

If you pay line rental to BT, Virgin is your CPS calls provider (see HERE).

That being the case, you can just use the 18185 prefix (if you have an account with 18185). There is no need to 'prefix that prefix' with 1280.

However, if you're calling weekday daytimes, it will be cheaper for you calling 0845 numbers to use 18185's freephone gateway number, 08081703703 (see HERE).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

You may also want to check the Say no to 0870 website in case there is a better alternative number.

    Sister company http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php is cheaper.
  • The 18866 service has been down all weekend. I'm unable to make any calls on my landline via 18866, getting continual system busy tone (beep, beep, beep). It is exactly the same problem also with 18185.

I've emailed 18866 but no response. Anyone know what's going on?
