Please click the HERE link in my signature below.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Hi I have accounts with 1899, 18866 and 18185 and all suddenly seem to have become inoperative just a few days ago. I have my phone service entirely from Tiscali and until a few days ago I could use prefix companies to divert and get their savings. Now not so. I wonder does anyone know if Tiscali has changed its conditions? Trying to get any info about this from Tiscali has been impossible as those of you who are also with them will understand! My accounts are up to date and there are no amounts outstanding that they are trying to take as yet if that makes sense. I have checked this online. Does anyone know what is going on?
Also suddenly my voice mail which I pay Tiscali has completely changed to one where you have to have a box no and log in? No warning or notice! What do I do?
Thanks for your help. Hope this is ok as I have not logged in for a long long time or posted.0 -
once again, 1899 have pulled a random billing date out of thin air and tried to collect the payment which obviously isn't there.
i can't realistically afford to pay it until next friday so does anyone know if they immediately suspend the service on a failed payment ?
i'm loathe to email them as I don't think their support service is based in the UK and the emails i've had in the past have been very generic and cut and paste.
if the service will carry on, then i'll just pay them next friday otherwise i'll have to find it from somewhere ..
any info most welcome .. cheers0 -
I've been a long term user of O2 and didn't realise until yesterday that they charge for 18185. I've used it for landline for years but only registered my mobile last month as I don't have a landline at the moment. I queried this with O2 last night and the operator was very helpful explaining everything. O2's official standpoint is that they are losing out on the call but if we only made a 1 minute call on our free minutes, they'd still lose out so I'm not quite sure of their rationale. 18185 do not make this clear on their website (if they do, I've missed it) and it seems rather pointless to use your free minutes to use the 18185 system. I rather think it's sharp practice on behalf of the mobile companies0

Yes, there is no point in using 18185 etc from a mobile to call a UK landline or mobile. Finarea do make this fairly clear, for example at
http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.phpIf calling from a mobile please ensure that you do not press the green/send key on your mobile again after dialling the follow-on number or you may be billed for a minute call by your mobile operator [but not actually get connected to the number you want]. 020 calls from mobiles may come out your inclusive ["]free["] minutes or your mobile operator may charge separately for calls to 020 numbers depending on your operator and tariff plan; please check with your mobile operator for correct rates. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Its also worth using 18185 from your mobile to call 0845/0870 numbers.0

I never use 18185 from my mobile however I have registered my mobile to use the 0208 number. can anyone confirm if o2 charge for this or it uses the existing minutes from my plan and I pay 18185 for the time. I was going to use it for calling abroad, 0845,0870 numbers from my mobile but these posts have scared me.
can anyone confirm this0 -
We had our first bill the other day from 18185, today the service stopped working.
I logged in to my account and it said the Direct Debit had been cancelled? We didn't do it; I'm going to ask the bank today if they did, but looking at the original email from 18185 there was now bank details in the email! I expect this may be where the problem lies.
How do you contact 18185? Do they ever talk to anyone!!??
Thanks, Speedee0 -
