Well it seemed to me they where posting in the HP section because their house hasn't gone up in 4 years and with prices decreasing they are now concerned that they will be affected in the same way as if they had bought 6 months ago at the peek. Which would be unlucky if the HPC is coming around largely due to HPI other the last few years.
House prices would appear to be coming down, but that's no reason for people on this forum to start harassing posters who are looking for support or advice. I thought thats what this site was all about.

. Genuine poster == Agrees with you ?
After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -

In your opinion. At the moment, to me, there seems a lot of confusion about what the OP did mean to be honest. And I am still undecided.
Maybe you got the wrong meaning?
Maybe we all did?
Only time (and a returning OP) will tell.0 -
Hi everyone
This might sound a bit negative however I have long accepted the truth that I am terribly unlucky in everything I do! That includes property:
4 years ago we bought the property next to this one http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-17406562.rsp?pa_n=3&tr_t=buy - it was advertised at £139 k but we negotiated down the price to £134k. The house is a fantastic cottage with character, in a private and quiet area at the edge of the town - however it is only ten minutes walk from the train station and the supermarket. We have a nice garden and the house backs onto the meadows that go on for some ten miles. Four years later, after the average house has gained some 30% in value, our house seems to be more or less worth exactly as much as we paid for it!!! if we judge by the next door which is for sale. This must be some record!
I've just done a search on rightmove for houses below 140k and within 10 miles of my area (Abingdon, Oxfordshire)
It returned 7 properties.
4 Shared Ownership
1 Mobile Home
2 Flats (Due to incorrect description)
And believe me, some of these properties are situated in areas where I would hire a personal body guard if I wanted to go out at night.
I think you're very lucky indeed to live in a nice area where houses are affordable.0 -

Thank you - one of the few people who replied to my posting sensibly and perceived correctly what the main idea of my posting was: HPC is here due to HPI, however we had no HPI which feels a bit unlucky.
I remember when replies to posts on this forum were well mannered, sensible and dealing with the initial posting. Unfortunately it seems this forum is now the home of the bitter and twisted. Shame.0 -
The only problem seems to be that the original poster probably has debts greater than assets.
However there is a very decent income coming in to this modest 2 up 2 down, so though the rates will go up there should be no reason for foreclosure. Just a bit of belt tightening required.
Is there a risk of the income being lost?
Is there a need to re-locate?
Is the need for more space ?
How big are the rooms? 12' x 12' in old money?
What is the pitch of the roof? 30 degrees or 45.
There is room to put something in the roof? or extend out the back?
Probably scope for putting a nice log cabin type "garden room" in the back garden, though there are regulations about keeping a meter (I think) away form the boundary.0 -
I remember being in Suffolk circa 1995 and seeing the most gorgeous period whitewashed 3 bed cottage for sale for 50K, which at the time I could (nearly) have bought outright. It was so cute I even contemplated buying it, although I had (and have never had since either) absolutely no interest in moving to deepest Suffolk, lovely though it is.
What goes up, in housing terms, will (probably) come down again.
If you're really worried about the price, sell now.
If not, enjoy it - your home is your home, not a cash machine/status symbol (delete as appropriate).0 -
I didn't see in the OP, any mention of having/putting their house up for sale. By all accounts (disregarding the value) they seem very enamoured with their house. I say stay put, enjoy your house for what it is - a home, as opposed to a money making machine. If you're not selling, or don't plan to sell soon, then why are you worried about the price? I bought a house yesterday - i realise that there is a VERY high likelyhood of it's price going down in the forseeable future. I won't love the house any less or get depressed about it. If next door sell theirs at a profit or loss, well good for them, it's not a competition. You have paid a VERY reasonable price for a house that you like. I consider that pretty lucky. I've just bought my first house for £202k. BUT, i love my house and will be very happy there for a long time. I don't just throw caution to the wind. I just have a positive mindset. I feel lucky that I've found a house I love and so should you. If you managed to sell at £134K now, then you've just lived in a house you love for 4 years for very little money......0

That's the one I guessed it would be too.0
