DD(19) just arrived home for a surprise visit for a couple of days.

Everybody enjoyed the kofta kebabs, chutney and split pea curry - really pleased as this is the first time I have made it.

I could not get creamed coconut so had to use coconut milk instead! Will make a chicken curry tomorrow and lots of home made soup to feed student daughter lots of veg. Have also got loads of fruit so am in "Mummy mode!"

DD(14) has just come home and squealed in delight to find her big sister!!!!

    Bethee

Your poor arms!!! Big gentle hug! You are a trojan for doing all that knitting:A

I agree with Kathy - keep phoning - really nicely and friendly - "just in case!"

    Fingers crossed for you.

Oh my goodness - the laptop's been on the blink for over a week, as has my desktop at school, so huge withdrawal symptoms here! I have used DH's PC a little, but not for anything like my normal usage! Thanfully my laptop is restored, so off I go to catch up on several days worth of threads. I feel so out of touch with you all!

I can't believe that it has only been a four day working week! It feels more like 20 days. I honestly don't know how you mums survive for so long - you must have the patience of saints. My year 2 class are just building up for their SATS, but I just call them "mini-tests". Otherwise they'll just panic. I already have one girl who suddenly can't read as soon as she's asked to read something by herself, even though she's perfectly proficient when she's reading out loud to an adult. At least we have different ways of testing these children. Not that they should be tested at this age, but that's a different thread and only my opinion.

Sorry, I'm talking "shop" and I shouldn't be!

I'm going out for a meal tonight at Frankie and Benny's as a leaving do for a colleague. Seem to think that I mentioned that last night....... Oh no! I'm getting like my mother. :rotfl:

DH is off to Blackpool tomorrow on a lads' weekend. Beware, people of Blackpool should you see a group of 10, 30 to 40yr olds wearing golfing gear - including a pair of plus fours! Meanwhile, I'm going to see a friend who is also losing her husband to the pubs of Blackpool and put the world to rights.

I've got to get myself down to the Farmers' Market tomorrow morning for some more ostrich burgers, minced beef etc etc.

Better go and get ready for tonight.......

    Evening everyone

really lovely to see loads of MIA folks back

why isn't martin wearing a birthday hat .... or suit? - happy birthday martin :)

pippad - have a curry - a hot one - ask kyle - she knows all about hot indians. When dd kept stopping and starting she was advised to keep walking - we walked about 6 miles one afternoon - nothing. then my friend came over, handed dd a flake and her waters broke. we reckon it must have been the excitement of there being actual chocolate in the house

PP - hugs lovely - we are all thinking of you

Well I can't get going as it's too blooming hot. Dgs and dd are coming over in a bit so I might just jump on the bike and get fish and chips for tea.
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008

REDRUBY - you'll love being a Granny when the time does come! Actually, I'm called Nan; my grandchildren call their other grandmother Grandma. I loved it the first time the eldest one called me 'Nan' - it made me cry! I'm too soppy for my own good, sometimes.

Kathy I'm soppy too, just reading about your grandchild calling you 'nan' bought a lump to my throat :o:o x

    Evening all

Just sat down!! Been to work this morning. Hit the shops at lunchtime cos I will be visiting my mum tomorrow so will have no time. Hoovered round and done some ironing. Been playing with my new camcorder too (kid with new toy mode)

My granddaughter calls me Nanny Chris and her other one Nanny (first name) too. Was soooooo chuffed first time she called me it - awwwwwwwwww.

I'm with you Vicky, little 'uns shouldn't be tested at such a young age. Can't they just trust the teachers to decide what level of education they are at at any one time, after all they are the ones that teach them day in and day out and know exactly what they are capable of. That's too logical though, eh?

It's still really warm outside and they are promising us a nice weekend too - great. Lets hope it lasts.

Speak to you all soon - bye
