Just wanted to say how amazing all your plots look! I hope next year I can get something half as good organised! Might be tricky as we are in a first floor flat with only a communal garden, although I'm going to ask if theres any chanceof them letting me build a (small) raised bed in the corner. Fingers crossed!

Hi nozzy66! Thanks for your comments and don't be put off because you live in a flat- I hope that your neighbours will be more than happy for you to put in a raised bed somewhere in your communal garden - I'm sure it would be an asset.

In the meantime, you could perhaps pop in a couple of pots of salad leaves/ radishes etc. just to get you started? You can sow these directly into large pots/containers (lots of ideas for these on this thread) any time soon in a sunny spot. You'll be harvesting your own produce in no time!

Be warned, though - gardening is addictive!!! :D

    Hi all
Just jumped over from the OS forum.

Madhouseof4 if you don't mind me asking what and how did you construct the wire frame over your beds. I have the same problem - have raised beds (linkabords) ready to fill and veg ready to transplant into them, but I also have 2 rabbits loose in the garden, who would demolish anything planted in it within seconds!!

Any help would be greatly appriciated
    Thank you

Ha I've realised that already! I've got a couple of pots out there in a mini greenhouse at the moment, 2 toms, a cucumber and some leeks. I might have a look for some salad leaves today, if its not too late to sow them? :D
  • Never too late for salad leaves, you can grow them in a pot on the windowsill in winter too!:D

Why do I never seem to have any luck in growing salad leaves?

I sow them in small containers and they all come up ok but by the time they reach a size where it's worth picking them, they all seem to wilt over and don't appear to be strong and crunchy like the ones you buy ready-bagged in the supermarket :(

Do you have any flowers or anything on yours yet? Do you have any tips on them? I've got one but I've read about having to do different things with male and female plants but I don't know which I've got! (I got it from a local sale so no real info on it)

    Thanks :o

Cut the first cucumber yesterday and we've got salad coming out of our ears, another week and the onions will begin to crop. First little toms are starting to form, raddish galore....shopping bill down :D

We're just a little bit behind you mjr, our courgettes are flowering, salad has sprouted but not quite big enough but we do have plenty of flowers on the toms - won't be long now before we can start eating :)

Oh and some of our spuds are just starting to flower so hopefully we'll have some lovely new pots very soon!
All I seem to hear is blah blah blah!
