The only thing these companies understand is money or the lack of it .

If every customer of these 3 threatens to vote with their feet and transfers to another ISP it will be dropped like a hot brick !

It a bit like my thread on the 10p tax, people tend not to take any notice until they are personally affected.
Skyuser has a No to Phorm banner on the homepage.

    Needs a 'Sun' headline maybe.

Internet users surfing details flogged to advertisers.

Maybe their isn't much interest in it because the techie's know that just about all security software will allow you to block the cookies phorm will use and that their is an opt-out at the very least.

Those that it will no doubt impact are those that don't understand technology or how to block things, so in turn don't understand what phorm even is or does, so can't say much about it even if it registers on their radar.

tbh you do not understand the impact of this technology. Blocking cookies does not stop interception of ALL your internet traffic. PLEASE see the press release from FIPR at http://www.fipr.org/press/080423phorm.html . The system is ILLEGAL on at least three counts:
    • interception of communications, an offence contrary to section 1 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000
    • fraud, an offence contrary to section 1 of the Fraud Act 2006
    • unlawful processing of sensitive personal data, contrary to the Data Protection Act 1998
Also if you opt-in to the system there is the possibility that YOU as a user could be commiting an offence!

There is also is an epetion at :

I've been surprised at the lack of interest too.

As for the cookie argument, the cookie is just to say you don't want the targeted adverts, it doesn't stop your data going through the phorm system and being read, that is whatever is displayed on the website you visit is being read, whatever you have displayed on your webmail is read, whatever you type on forms is being read, cookie or no cookie.

This by a company with a dogdy background. Would you be happy that all your personal details along with credit card details, bank account details, how much money you have etc etc is going through this system?

Problem is there are too many people who live in the fluffy world of they don't care until it's too late and then cry about it and demand something should be done, no good shutting the stable door.....
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)

You can't block it that easily or without some higher expense as your ISP will be sending the data directly through a phorm system, the cookie is just to say if you want targeted adverts or not, not to stop your data being mined.

Silly comment - they're not in business for fun are they?!

As for Phorm, it doesnt bother me. Theres a firefox plug-in which blocks it so i'm pretty sure theres going to be plenty of things available which will block them.

Sorry - but please understand that the plug-in will only stop adverts being displayed. It WILL NOT stop your traffic being intercepted and profiled - please read the reports!

Are you happy that phorm will be reading all your emails, profiling ALL your web traffic. This is NOT the same as say amazon suggesting something based on what you have done on their site. This is everything, everywhere you go, everything you type. Not only that, it's the same for your wife, children. Are you happy that they have the capability to read all your personal details. If implemented they have the ability to see everthing you do on here / everwhere.

This from a company (121media) whose programmers are in russia and was author of the most invasive rootkit spyware in history.

The Firefox plug-in is good, but it doesn't stop your data going through Phorm as that is done the ISP side of things, it's already been done way before it hits your browser.

Yeah, it's the same as you saying to Royal Mail you don't want their targeted Junk Mail, however that doesn't stop them opening ALL and reading it, be it a bill, a Birthday card, a Hospital letter, personal letter etc, then stuffing it back in the envelope and posting it to you, as you have opted out they won't target medication adverts to you based on the details they now have on you about your illness, they won't target adverts to you stating as you spend £60 per month on gas, switch to xxx and we will do it for £40, they won't send adverts saying as we saw in your personal letter you have problems with so and so, how about buying this.

Yes, it will stop the targeted adverts, it won't however stop the letters being read.

Sorry but if you believe that the above isn't happening already then you're naive. The only issue here is the companies selling this information to make money.

But then the example counter-argument is if you're not doing anything criminal you shouldn't have anything to worry about?
