I never find anything. DS often finds pennies and five pences - have to say I'm a bit too embarresed to pick it up. He shouted look mummy - money - at the top of his voice on the bus the other day and nearly tripped over his feet to pick it up - it was 3p!! He did find £1.60 under a bench at the bus stop the other week too - and he's always finding feathers. I did find a tenner once in a puddle - I dried it off on the radiator. Nephew found an expensive camera on the rocks at the beach - handed it in to police - nobody claimed it and he got to keep it.

Don't discourage it! My brother was always doing it and then one day on the beach he yelled out - and came back with a roll of money that had been left on a deckchair - £50!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

I once found a bread knife by the side of the road. It didn't have any blood stains on it. I kept it and used it for over 10 years!

Oh, I womble ink cartridges from the bin at work - the people in the upstairs offices even save them for me now :D I even pulled a bag of euros out of the bin one day - one girl had just left the office to go home to the States for good and didn't think they would change coins - so had just dumped them, I asked if I could have them (I offered to change them for her) and she looked stunned and said I could just take them. Must have been about 80 euros in small coinage; and we'll use them no problem.

I found 18 p on the way to work today. I just pick coins up - we have a piggy bank for change at home and it all goes in there - when there is enough to annoy the bank, I bag it up and pay it in. No shame me. OH is the same :)

I've found some strange stuff at work on the campus over the years - a lot of jewellery, money, two mp3 player and a couple of wallets (all handed in). I found a bank card in the cash point last week which I handed in to the bank.

I had my wallet pinched last week from my pocket in Oxford city centre, I went into the store and asked if it had been handed in and the SA asked me why I'd bothered asking as "noone hands stuff in these days". I thought that was rather sad really.

I don't tend to have major finds but have found 9p this week along with an Amazon box that someone had dumped and some bubble wrap. OH used the packing materials to sent off one his orders in as everything was in good condition and it means we don't have to buy them! I'm sure onlookers think I'm totally barking but I'm past the age where I care!!

[Simply take to customer services and have them add the points to your card, I can honestly say I have acquired literally thousands of pounds worth of points wombling for receipts.]

How do you know whether they have already been added to the owner's own clubcard, surely they won't add them twice

Hi Tenmah, the receipts wont have the barcode on the bottom or the clubcard holders details.

I've found money over the years around £50 in notes and we are always picking up loose coins. My DD (9) always yells free money and gleefully picks it up for her money box, bless.

I've also rescued a telephone table for my DD's bedroom and 4 games from the recycle point, they couldn't be recycled as its only for paper and plastic the council would have thrown it away (seen them do it before). My DD was over the moon but i did get some strange looks walking down the street with them!!!

Also i've found numerous receipts at Tesco's in the trolleys and claimed the points, my OH thought i had gone mad but now has seen the error of his ways!!!

    Love finding stuff like that.

You people are more fortunate than me. All I seem to find on the ground where I live are dog turds !!
Last year my husband found a stolen laptop dumped in a hedge which it su bsequently transpired had been left on the passenger seat of a car parked in our village car park. It obviously belonged to an insurance/mortgage agent because it contained paperwork for six mortgage applicants revealing full details of their employer, salary and home addresses and National Insurance numbers. He handed it in to the police and the owner didn't even bother to phone him to say "thank you". Wish we'd kept a note of the applicants' names and addresses. We could have contacted them and let them know how casually their brokers was respecting their personal security information.

As a kid I found a pound coin on the beach. My brother had been given a metal detector so we decided to check, it beeped so we kept digging and managed to come up with £62 in loose change!!!!!!

Goodness knows who had been sitting there before me. I think my mum "looked after" it for me, as I would have been about 6 or 7 at the time. I was happy with the resulting ice-cream!

I've seen people on beaches quite often sweeping metal detectors - I know why now!
