AFAIK you (as a non-member) could receive messages from members and reply to them, but only once to their query. If you forgot something and tried to send an addendum, you would be immediately asked for your credit card details, to send the 2nd message. Well that is the way ITV worked it.
You could not originate a message, nor look at others trees even if they (member) gave you permission. However they could look at your tree if you had given permission, which is a bit mean imho.
Has this now changed??ac's lovechild0 -

This is brilliant! Thanks to your posting I checked and I had messages in my inbox dating back to 2005 and 2006 - that I hadn't/couldn't reply to. Now I can - for free. Let's hope the senders are still alive and kicking!:j0 -
Anyone remember a long time ago when it first started, they sent an email offering a £5 life-time offer? They never honoured it and started charging £5/year.0
