Comments
-
We bought a large George Foreman grill on 'Black Friday' - got it for around £30. I can't say that it has changed my life but I certainly use it for steaks, burgers, bacon etc. It is used at least three times a week, so I feel that the purchase was justified. I wish I had more inventive ways of using it.July Grocery Challenge: £52.76/£140

Some great ideas in this thread. The only thing I've used mine for in recent times is toasted sandwiches as I tend to pan fry steaks, fish fillets and small cuts of meat. But I think I'll start using it again, and give grilled veggies a try.
Has anyone tried cooking frozen fish fingers in it? Not sure why the thought just popped into my head as I usually microwave them for speed when making a fish finger sarnie but this makes the coating go soggy.0 -
cheers all. think I will get one. I don't have a separate grill, or a microwave, so handy.
I don't like putting on the massive oven for two burgers/ chicken legs/ few sausages etc.
I hate cleaning the oven .
toasted sandwiches--_yay!
could you cook those frozen garlic bread slices in it?( usually put massive oven on for two slices)
Am now craving halloumi and asparagus...LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -
I use my griller to make garlic bread. Make garlic butter with softened butter and crushed garlic. Slice some bread from a whole loaf. Butter both sides and grill. The butter melts and soaks in to the bread, and the grill leaves grill lines on the bread. You can turn the bread 90 degrees to make lines the other way too. It goes crispy. The scrapings off the grill after that are sublime.Still virtually alcohol free since 4/1/15. (10 Xmas/ New Year/Birthday drinks)

I used to have one, don't need it any more as I have a new cooker with an upright grill
Took me a long time to find it, and I'm incredibly glad I did.
The Foreman worked well, fish fingers etc would work fine. Garlic bread might be a bit too big:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
Sorry for re awaking an old thread but it looks like folk have been chipping away at this since 2007, so I guess its okay to drop in my 2 pence. Found the thread on google after looking for JF recipes for our newly purchased device.
We have tried and had success with:
- Halloumi marinated in franks chili lime hot sauce
- Courgettes/aubergines marinated for 10 minutes in herbs de province, olive oil and black pepper.
- Pannini's such as brie & cranberry, caprese salad, cheddar etc
- Spring onions turn out great0 -
If you do get one, go for the four-portion version. I bought the two-person one because it was on offer, but it isn't really big enough to take two portions of most things!
It's great for steaks.
My DD warned me that she had found thick chicken breasts didn't cook through properly, so I haven't tried those.
The drip-tray on the small model just tucks underneath and is quite flimsy.
I have three, although the smallest is on permanent loan to my partner who uses it to cook meals for himself. The next size up does the two of us for a steak, fish, etc. but when you get into the realms of chicken fajitas, asparagus with meat, etc. you really need the biggie. The first one I got for £5 from the British Heart shop, the second from a car boot and the biggie just recently from a car boot for £3. They just get better and better. One thing we found really good was courgettes sliced lengthwise with a bit of olive oil, garlic and chilli on. I only use my big oven once a year and have a combi microwave/oven/grill for daily use, and the George Foremen compliment this really well.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Brilliant time for this thread being resurrected - DS is off to Uni next weekend and has bought a GF in the Argos sale.
I have forwarded the link onto him for tips and ideas - I am hoping he will be Cordon Bleu by his return at ChristmasNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Thinking of Christmas - sorry- as oven space will be at a premium (full Turkey roast and trimmings and veggie option in a small oven). Has anyone successfully done pigs in blankets in a 'george'?Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0
