as a George cooks both sides at once I tend to halve cooking times! I love chops and steaks cooked on the George - but beware - cheap sausages will put you off sausage for ages when you see the gunk that comes out! 'good' meaty sausages are gorgeous!
  • I managed to do an egg on mine (why? why not!), just propped up one side so that the normally-draining surface was flat. I didn't put the lid down though!

So yes, you can grill pretty much anything.....

Also did "burgers" a few times - mixed mince with an egg and some herbs/spices and shaped into patties.

I have searched and can't find a thread but I am not very good at using the search function so apologies if this will need merging.

What do you cook on your george foreman grill? I found one in a charity shop but unfortunately it is missing the instructions.

I am going to try sausages tonight but no idea how long to cook them for? Is it just the same timings as you would use on the ovens grill?

I would also like to try out some complete meals, I have heard you can cook veg etc on them as well? Has anyone any meals / recipes they can suggest for it?

    Thanks

Have a look on this appliance manuals website:
    http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/george_foreman/george_foreman_kitchen_grill_product_list.html
(sorry I can never remember how to condense links to be short and tidy)
But if you scroll to about a third of the way down the page past the advert links, to the letter "G", there are a number of George Foreman grill models listed, maybe the manual for yours is available amongst them.

I'd just halve everything because you're cooking both sides at once.

Open the lid, put the food in, remove it when cooked.
They really are that simple, sausages are best rotated quarter of a turn.
The food will taste different as you are now tasting the food as opposed to the fat you cooked it in by old methods.
When you see the amount of fat that drains away and think you would have eaten this, you never go back.

Having had a few different makes, the one that bares the famous boxers name is the only game in town by a long way.
    Be happy...;)

That one may be better than the cheap imitations. But I've got a commercial standard one that is made by Breville, bought from John Lewis. It is bigger than most George Foremans, and actually gets hotter (so is better for searing steak).

In reply to the OP, you can cook whole meals, but you need to remember that if whatever you are cooking is all different thicknesses, then some things won't be in contact with the grill on both sides.

Also someone said about just halving the normal cooking time because it cooks both sides. Well this isn't the case with things like sausages because it uses conducted heat rather than radiated. So you will still need to turn them.
