I'm considering Lasik treatment and wanted to know how others had got on before I take the plunge!
:A
My Lasek surgery was nearly 1 year ago & I have to have it re-done, but NOT at Optimax. They just want your cash & don't tell you the real risks!
The pain after Lasek is excrutiating so I'm putting off having it re-done even though my eyesight is so messed up!
Wish I'd seen the warning posts on forums before letting Optimax near my eyes
There're loads of positive blogs but you have to search to find personal accounts of very possible dangers. Google "optimax ruined my life" for plenty of real horror stories!
Would also suggest checking out Twitter posts @ORMLinfo as they have it pretty much covered. The website also has an email link so you can get honest advice.
I am going to Moorfields for retreatment - was mad to even consider cut price surgery on my eyes0 -
I would advise people to register with the companies and wait and see if anyone gets any special offers through that take their fancy??0

Mathew Edwards will put the balanced facts infront of you.
Thing is the NHS uses homoeopathic "medicine" (or "water" as it is normally described) so just because they say it doesn't make it true.
Actually the recent problem with breast implants is a good example of the British state attitude to everything:
Does it make someone money? Then it's fine.
Will it cost us money to fix? Then it's fine.naughtybish wrote: »thank goodness the likes of Tiger Woods never listened to him.
I don't think he went for the budget option though.naughtybish wrote: »Flap complications with LASIK arise in 0-4 per cent of cases
0 to 4 percent? So they don't know how many? They don't have accurate figures? That's a bit worrying.naughtybish wrote: »Severe loss of vision is very unusual, but some patients could require corneal surgery or hard contact lenses to restore vision. You should find out exactly how frequently your surgeon has experienced complications and why.
Who pays for that? Better check the fine print. As many women who had breast implants just found out when things go wrong the company responsible isn't going to eat the cost of fixing it.FiscalFanny wrote: »a their results are independently verified, the only supplier that allows this
Verified by people they paid to verify them. "Independent" doesn't mean what you think it means.b I had two friends who had exemplary treatment with themc I researched and they came up as one of the leading suppliersThis is on top of their 3 year interest free credit with 6 months delay payment start.0 -
Just wondering if it's worth me going to these guys?
http://www.opticalexpress.co.uk/laser-eye-surgery/advanced-customvue-wavefront.html
Where they charge from £1095 per eye, so at least £2190, and there's a voucher here for £300 off
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300-00-OFF-VOUCHER-EXP-DATE-MAY-OPTICAL-EXPRESS-LASER-EYE-SURGERY-/130672707595?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_VisionGlasses_Lenses_SM&hash=item1e6cb3480b#ht_584wt_932
So at least £1900 altogether.
I suffer from photophobia and slight myopia (prescription being SPH: -0.75 CYL +0.25 for both eyes)
Just wondering if any one has found any better deals? Also, would it be possible to say pay partially on a credit card, and the rest on debit (so you're covered under section 75?)
Thanks0 -
Hi
I'm confused with the three different types of treatment I was offered.
- this seems to be where a blade is used by the surgeon to cut the flap
Lasik - Mechanical Microkeratome (this is using a blade and a surgeon to cut the flap)
Lasik - IntraLase Femtosecond system (a laser machine cuts the flap)
Lasik - IntraLase Femtosecond system with wavefront (a laser machine cuts the flap and wavefront proposes better vision - especially night)
I'm considering the middle option as it is better recovery time and less risk - but the risk thing really puts me off obviously.
However if you haggle with them on the price.
I have purchased one of those £300 vouchers off and also if you book it within a week of confirming you want the deal (this is now straight after the consultation - i waited about 3 weeks before I decided I would take it and then asked if they could knock some off) - they take off 10%
So you could go from £2700 to £2400 to £2000
However I am wondering is the Wavefront worth it? I am not bothered about having better than 20/20 vision but dont want any issues with night vision (I currently don't)0 -

Yep you can do this - you can pay say £1000 in a lump sum and the rest over the 10 months 0% APR but do make sure you pay it off before then!
However they obviously do a credit check on you so make sure you don't have anything else planned that you need it for in the next few months0 -
I had the wavefront done last year and I can't really say if it was worth the extra money as I don't know what the results would have been otherwise. However I figured that since you are fiddling with your body there should be no cutting corners so the extra was worth it in that way. Best thing I ever did by the way and I wish I had done it years ago!0

the most important for best results, is to choose best professionals. Laser vision correction has always some risk but if company gives a guarantee of the full safety during the surgery ( sometimes you have special insurance) it tells you something about firm. I come from Poland and in my opinion most experienced specialists are in Krakow. I recomend this place is safe and you also might safe.
you might check them here

They have clients from all around the world.0 -
Fyis, if anyone buys a referral voucher from Ebay (or anywhare else) for Ultralase for 10% off treatment, the referral scheme has finished.
I bought a voucher from Ebay and when I rang Ultralase (my treatment is booked for June) to ask if I could use it, they said the referral scheme was no longer in place. Seller was ok about it and refunded my whopping 99p!
I'm not saying sellers are selling the referral codes knowing that the scheme is no longer in place, as the vouchers do not have an expiry date on them - it's just that Ultralase has stopped the referral scheme.
Really pleased with Ultralase so far. I've been given extended wear contact lenses - you can keep them in day and night for up to 30 days - in the prescription that my eyes will be lasered to, just to make sure that I'm happy (I'm having monovision done, so one eye will be for distance and the other for close work - the brain works out a balance) and they are great. Can't wait to have my eyes done.0
