Hi all
I had eye surgery at Ultralase, I have to admit I didn't go to the cheapest supplier, I chose to go with them because:
a their results are independently verified, the only supplier that allows this
b I had two friends who had exemplary treatment with them
c I researched and they came up as one of the leading suppliers
d my prescription was very high (-12) and one of their consultants is specialist in high prescriptions, I asked for his personal outcome stats on surgery of my prescription which they were happy to give me.
I got a tip off from a girl in the clinic as I went for my consultation that after 8 weeks they send an email giving 20% discount on your quoted price. This is on top of their 3 year interest free credit with 6 months delay payment start.
Sure enough I waited and 8 weeks on, I got the same which saved me £558 off my treatment.
I paid £2,200 in the end for a specialist tissue saving treatment (I am - correction - was -12)
Good luck to all - it's a fabulous procedure.

Hi all I has LASEK with Wavefront surgery in Optimax a few weeks ago and am really happy with it. I paid £1080 in total as I had a voucher to the value of £500 given to me by a friend. As a result of having the surgery Optimax have given me a number of £500 vouchers which can be redeemed against LASIK or LASEK. The consultation is free - if anyone wants one please PM me. - Just so you know I get £50 referral each time someone uses a voucher :j0

A word of caution: Claimed success rates by laser eye surgery clinics are not to be trusted, operations in which eyesight was only marginally improved are classed as successful as are operations that leave patients with long-term problems such as dry-eye and eye pain.
I still want to get my eyes done but it's quite tiring trying to sift through articles and forum threads trying to figure out who really knows what they are talking about and who doesn't and then there are all the plugs by laser eye surgery clinics trying to big-up their product.
What worries me most is that they all treat people as customers rather than patients.
So far Optical Express is looking like the best choice for me with Optimax relegated to the bottom of the list.0 -

What experience have you had and how can you demonstrate results?
In general, the more operations a surgeon has carried out the higher the success rate. In some of cases, sight without glasses might not be as good as sight with glasses before the operation. The difference is usually minor, but find out what results your surgeon has had. Also check how many patients have had to come in for further treatment to improve on the initial results. Bear in mind that one in three people will still need glasses for some purposes, such as night driving. Laser surgery will not be able to cure age-related presbyopia and the need for reading glasses in your mid 40's.
What risks are there and what is your complication rate?
Complications occur in less than 5 per cent of cases, but make sure your consultant outlines all the risks. Flap complications with LASIK arise in 0-4 per cent of cases, but can usually be corrected with little or no loss of vision. Some people have a problem with dry eyes in the months after surgery and artificial tear supplements might be needed in the long term. Many patients have experienced glare or halo effects when night driving, particularly just after treatment. This is more likely the higher the correction that has been made, but is rarely severe. In rare cases, excessive thinning of the eye wall can cause the shape of the eye to be unstable after treatment. Severe loss of vision is very unusual, but some patients could require corneal surgery or hard contact lenses to restore vision. You should find out exactly how frequently your surgeon has experienced complications and why.
This is a case in point.
Complications occur in 5% of cases, but is that statistic according to the RCOphth or according to the laser eye surgery clinics? What you or me would consider to be a complication is not necessarily what they regard as a complication. The true numbers are not easy to find.0 -

If it is the one on Bristol Road my sister had hers done there about 3 years ago and said she would have it done again tomorrow, she is over the moon with the result. Her brother in law had his done there last year too and is also happy with his results0 -
