i have had my eyes done in Turkey where i now live- i had very high astigmitism and consequently very poor eyesight in both eyes. i had both eyes done at the same time and it cost a total of 530 quid and involved loads of follow up appointments in the 2 months of recovery. i now have eyesight good enough to do most day to day things(small text on tv can be a little difficult) but a year on i dont need glasses!

Before i had my op the surgeon was concern about me haing glaucoma in my left eye because of a 'high' reading but after the op this had receeded to a normal level.

İ have alsorts of 'surgery' for corrections done and can highly recommend Turkey!

Well im reporting back almost 9 months since my Laser op I had lasek from Optimax finchley.

Ill give a short jist of it... I went for a checkup to see if im a good candidate, they looked at my last 3 eye test said my eyes are the same if anything there getting better so I was approved.

Had 2nd test and they confirmed my corneas are a little too thin so I have to take Lasek op (ie the one that takes 4-6 weeks) to heal...

the operation took less then 10 minutes, procedure is the same for Lasek/lasik ops I belive...... if anything getting a wisdom tooth pulled out from the dentist is far longer more painful !

Anyhow 1st 2 days I sat in pitch black room mainly sleeping, id advise sleeping and listening to radio is best !

I had blurry vision even after 2-3 days but id say I was 60-70% there to getting 20/20 so its not worth worrying if your gonna be blind... I was able to get back to work and was fine just a bit blurry like... within 2-3 days it was getting better and better about 3-4 weeks I belive on my 2nd to last checkups I was 20/20 and over the moon could read the last line on both eyes just about, 2nd from bottom clearly.... I didnt even bother going to the last checkup !

There are some bad things about getting laser surgery which have been mentioned but ill mention it again

    * eyes can still get dry I still sometimes apply eye drops sometimes... just seems to help and relax the eyes
    * eyes still cant focus on led/timers or even red/blue standby lights on tvs/vcrs etc dispite 20/20 ! I get slight double vision or blurryness.
    * eyes definatly have to work more harder then when I was with glasses! Be warned about this I find in the evenings my eyes definatly get more tired and sleepy.
    * Dust and pollen now easily hits my eyes making them more red/sore, no more glasses to protect my eyes :(
    * My 1st summer without specs! Bright Sun light and I find i have to blink more or squint eyes alot more, hopefully sunglasses I can now enjoy :)
    * Night vision, low lit rooms or even if its in the evening..... be warned your eye sight will degrade it will not be quite 20/20 !

Ill try to explain the above issue, its tricky to explain but lets say for me im a night owl I watch alot of tv at night in a pitch black room with no lights apart from the tv sets light.... I can see the tv clear and sharp.... but the surroundings are blurry at best. This is perhaps the worst part of having laser surgery... in good lighting and well lit rooms/buildings your eye sight will be clear and sharp, the more darker and less light getting to your eyes the worser it is.

Im still not saying your gonna be blind during night time ;) but its like someone has turned off the contrast/brightness switch to low on your eyes.

Be aware that not everyone will get the same issues as above, many people have said after 6 months to a year + there night visions improved again... or lights at night and double vision has improved/gone....

How come Laser eye surgery seems so much cheaper at Optical Express than at this clinic? http://www.advancedvisioncare.co.uk/cost-and-payment-plans.html It's almost a £1,000 difference!

Is it just because OE are a big chain and can afford to discount it? There are plenty of good referrals for OE kicking around but it does make me wonder if you're paying for something below average.
  • can you recommend a reliable Laser eye surgery which i can assure my health status.

Regarding past 3 comments.... Discount codes, you can still buy them cheap of ebay but your much better off registering your details or signing up for there newsletters via there websites. Take optimax, they send out every few months a half price voucher from 4k to 2k..... even calling them and asking any laser company and asking whats the best price you can do and telling them ive been offered same treatment for 2k at optimax it forces any company to reduce there prices or discount it... You gotta haggle sometimes ! I feel most laser companies are doing the same treatments/services but you can always try getting quotes and checks by 1-2 before deciding. all laser eye clinics check and asses your eyes to make sure what treatments best for you and if your suitable and have healthy eyes... they will ask for you to bring in usualy your last 2-3 eye test results. Chances are if your eyes have stayed the same over 5-10 years or improved or got a little worser then your a good candidate for laser surgery...but dont worry they run thru a few test to make sure your good for it. If anyones interested its now been over a year and im still 20/20 in my eyes.... while my eyes still rarely get dry there all good and its definatly one of the best things ive done in my life so far while 2k @ optimax its pricey but well worth it !
