  • What is the certificate of competence called? Is it "Certification in Refractive Surgery"?
  • Can anybody explain why Ultralase are more expensive than other companies?

I have been to a consultation and been offered LASIK wave-front guided ULTRALASIKplus (with Intralase) for a total of £3990.

Looking at the OE pricing (as I am yet to go to the consultation) sheet it looks like I can get Advanced CustomVue Wavefront LASIK with Intralase for a total of £2180.

These appear to be the same procedure (am I mistaken?). So am I paying an extra 2k for the life-time aftercare guarantee and is it worth 2k?

    Confused!!

    I Confused!!

Nicer chairs, nicer looking clinic rooms in terms of decor, lots of brochures and a free (useless) dvd & pushy salemen.

Saying that my local OE clinic has just had a complete refit, so apart from the free DVD on par.

BTW i was told at my last OE check up that all customers are now offered lifetime aftercare in response to UL's offer. I have not checked recent OE T&Cs to verify this. OE from my experience will look after as much as necessary. I have seen them pay for man with a slight flap problem to go escorted with a staff member to another clinic, as the local surgeon was not available. IMHO both big companies with lots of experience, its down to price, and which surgeon they offer you.

If you use my referral details for OE you get £75 off! (£50+£25 back from me!)

this can vary between clinics and also vary between what surgeons feel comfortable and confident in treating. best to seek professional advice from some clinics especially if you are higher prescription.
  • Hi, my sister went for her laser eye surgery to Prague. She paid for the best available surgery Lasik HD €800 per eye. The company she went with is called Praga Medica (medicalservicesprague.com). Don't get caught on the tv ads offering an eye surgery for €400. It does not include all fee such as consultation, check-up, medications etc. It has been over 6 months and she is extremely happy with the results. No glasses anymore..
  • I have bought from 69 dollar specs and did not get charged customs duty. I recommended them to my sister and she did get charged, together with royal mail excess postage (the latter was not due to insufficient postage, but due to royal mail rules for when things are stopped by customs).

I had discussed this with my regular optician before the consultation and he advised against optimax (which is who I thought I was going to).
Had my eyes done Wednesday at Optical Express and can't recommend it enough! Less than 24 hours later I had better than 20/20 vision and told it should improve over the next few weeks as my eyes heal.
My friend had her eyes done last year and recommended OE so I got £300 off too and paying 10 months interest free :j

i went with opticial express and they were just amazing. There was no question that I wouldn't go with them, they have been my opticians since the very start and i wouldn't trust anyone else to go near my eyes
