I remeber when i was 9 we had just moved into an old Victorian house. I heard a shriek from the kitchen and we rushed in to see my mother standing on a chair flapping a tea towel at a mouse which was just sitting in the middle of the kitchen. Next day she went out and got some scram and pured it down the mousehole. later that evening - shriek!! the mouse was sitting in the middle of the kitchen licking the Scram off its back. this happened every day for a week
next day we went out and got the smallest kitten you ever saw - barely old enough to leave it's mother and it certainly couldn't have caught that mouse. But we never saw that mouse again - it was almost as if the mere smell of cat made it pack its bags.
I still laugh when I picture my mother flapping a teatowel at the mouse and it taking no notice whatsoeverIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Yes, I can recommend chocolate too and a drop or two of vanilla essence. I warm a piece of chocolate up to melt it and glue it to a humane trap otherwise they seem able to take it without being caught. We have a large trap and sometimes several can be found in it in the morning (remember you will almost certainly have more than one mouse!).
Positioning of the trap is important. Mice tend to run around the edges of rooms so place traps by skirting boards where you have seen droppings or signs of chewing. It also seems to work well to put a piece of cardboard over the trap to make a tunnel - they avoid being out in the open if they can.
Mice seem to have a good sense of direction and letting them go just outside your house is no good because they are likely to come straight back in. We release them a mile away (and the other side of a river) to give them a challenge.
Not all local authorities will come out for free; it's £50 +VAT here (Devon) and they will of course use poison. I don't see any need to kill them, I just want them out of the house!0 -
We got our humane traps from Wyvale Garden Centres, They worked an absolute treat especially when we found out our little tribe liked choc chip cookies!
We took our friendly little mice (once caught!) on a little drive to the local woods and set them free0 -
:j We have finally caught the mouse this morning but not before the little sod ran out on me twice in the bathroom:eek: I was soon out of that bathroom before you could say cheese. I put sugar and flour in the trap, when we got up this morning it had knocked the flap down so we fixed it, when we came home late on it was in the humane trap:j . You should of seen the size of it, it was so small. We took it on a long long drive, let it go and ran before it managed to come back with us. we went a round a round about 2 times to get it disorientated. When i got home i gave the place a good hover and boy can they make a mess. Thanks for all your help it was very much appreciated. The best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. I am so guttered like you would not believe as i felt so clean again knowing that i had got rid of the sod and all it's s**t but now i don't.
We don't have peanut butter so the is flour and sugar that worked last time in the trap. The o/h mum has it so i will get a blob tomorrow thanksThe best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. Bummer!!!!
They're like fleas and headlice...... you get one... you get a WHOLE family
I know you don't want to go down the poison route so you'll just have to stick with the humane traps and hope for the best.
Could you borrow a cat just for the day and take your doggy to a friends house? The scent of a cat may be enough to scare the mice away.
Good luck anywayJust run, run and keep on running!0 -

If you have one your more likely to have more..maybe a litter on it's way too..
as for humane traps, i wouldn't bother. We need to keep numbers down not create more. If you catch them with humane traps and let them go, all your doing is letting that one mouse invade someone elses house
No we need to kill them to keep the numbers down, they are vermin not pets0
