My cat brings mice in but they always find a way out after a few days - guess they don't like living with a cat!!
If I get to her while they are still in her mouth, I wait till she drops them and then grab them while they're still shocked to put outside. Luckily she makes a particular noise when she is all excited about having caught one!!! Hi Penny-Pincher,
Where did you buy the traps? How much of the Mars Bar did you used as bait?
Thanks.

I have laid the bait, one of the quality street i dont like. I really hope he does, i would much prefer to make good use of the humane trap and take him on a nice little one way trip.
Is there any recommendations on how far to take it? The last time we had this visitor the o/h took him about 1/4 of a mile away. Now i cant be certain if this is the same fella (i didnt really fancy getting to know him on a personal basis) but i would like to get rid of him and any of his family for good.
Any news and i will let you all know, wish me and mousy good luck. The best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. It costs nothing and means so much.0 -

We have put a humane trap with cheese down to try and catch it but it is having none of it as it wont go in. My partner has given me 5 days before he gets an inhumane trap _pale_ and sets it up, I can't stand the thought of an inhumane trap but i can't stand the thought of living with it. We have a dog who i don't think has even noticed we have a mouse, it was inches from her basket while she was asleep and she didn't even twitch.
Can anybody suggest how i can get rid of it asap before the inhumane trap gets put down.
Best thing to do...borrow a neighbours cat, may not be the most humane way to do it but it will get caught and will put you at less risk of some pretty nasty infections/diseases.
I used to keep pet mice and can't now because I have a cat, so it destroys me when I see my cat catching a mouse but that's just the way the world works!
Borrow a cat, don't feed it for a few hours and it'll catch the mouse in no time!!Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0 -
As a student we had a plague of mice - and the best bait (after a long running experiment) was crunchy peanut butter - the smooth didn't cut the mustard at all. Gave up on humane traps because they took too long to be effective and didn't make a loud enough noise to attract the attentions of the house occupantsThere are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0 -
Try baiting your trap with peanut butter, it works for me when my cat brings one in and lets it go under the sofa, when i first got my humane trap thats what it was baited with.0

A quick update, chocolate, peanuts and butter have all been placed into trap and as yet no sign. I think it may be the same one as we had a while ago and he has become wise to the trap.
If no sign by tomorrow i will try a mars bar.
Many thanks for all the suggestions. The best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. It costs nothing and means so much.0 -
although not humane the best way is a small wooden box, open at one end with a piece of chocolate / cheese / mouse food at the boxed in end. leave it there for a few days so the mouse knows it'll get fed.
After a week don't put any food at the end and put a razor blade, blade up, in front of where the bait used to be. along comes Mr(s) mouse, puts their head over the blade, and looks for the cheese, after looking about a bit thinking, where's the cheese. where's the cheese. where's the cheese... bish bash bosh... 1 headless mouse0 -
The best food in a mousetrap is sugar, it solidifies so there is no chance of the mouse nicking it and getting away, the little ***** just love chocolate too.
