This AFC process is a joke, its not been done properly and in the end there are just filling boxes for filling boxes sake, we had to get the excercise completed and now its completed as far as they are concerned. I have been to them and spoken about my banding, I know colleagues in other parts of the same organisation doing the same job as me who have been banded a 7 and i've been banded a 5. I've got two JD's that show our jobs are practically identical, in one instance I actually have higher criteria on my person spec - but despite this they have looked at my banding and its fine!! AGHH!!!

Like I say the process is unfair and a joke, its meant to bring equality but has torn the NHS apart!!! There are now winners and losers, morale is really low and getting lower, I believe there should be an independent review into the process to show what a sham it is!!

    Well said Rachie,
Utter farce at our place, one member of staff of my team left already, others probably will too, I may well myself, it does not equalise pay rates as it is still subjective to the opinions of those agreeing Job descriptions and JAQs and processing the results. I have been told numerous conflicting things by different job analysts, even been told to ignore the guidance when the analysts disagree with it, incidentally I dont envy their job. Staff morale has been severely affected by it all. The cost of the whole thing must be astronomical, maybe it has been designed to be cost effective in as much as driving the workforce away, to that result it has worked.
Aha, so thats how you do a signature!

Very definatley! I am actively looking for another job as are most of the people who work with me, the ones who came off well aren't obviously... I actually came off okay and aren't on a lower salary but have a grudge against the whole process when my colleaugues are better of than me for doing the same job.

I actually think the process is more about weeding people out in some aspects....

I agree with RACHIE77, this whole process is an utter mess, and very divisive. A colleague of mine suggested getting an independent ombudsman to review this sorry saga, I am certainly considering raising this with my local MP.

Oh yes and whilst I'm posting, our promised back pay (was to be paid at the beginning of February) still hasn't appeared, with no indication of when it will be now. I spoke to a colleague whose trust (at the other end of the country) have informed them that they won't be getting their back pay until April as their trust hasn't got the money, that's money owed from October 2004! So the staff are bailing the hospital out with their own money! They'll be after our blood next!
  • The trust i work for went with agenda for change somewhere around the middle of last year, My wages didn't change much but staff that i was working alongside doing exactly the same job came out with around £3-400 more, also backpay has been a really big issue- i got £12.30 something for my trouble, while ppl that had only just started with the trust were getting £200 and more ( i'd been there nearly 4 yrs ).
The whole NHS and it's systems need a radical shake-up.

I thought back pay had to be calculated from 1 Oct 2004 when AfC came into force. I know at ours that all ts&cs, inc holidays etc are calculated from 2004 or start date if recently joined.

If your trust is doing anything different, have a look at the AfC pages on the https://www.dh.gov.uk website.

    Hi Diva

Yes that's right back pay is from 1st October 2004. I'm not due very much, but I know of some who are now owed quite a bit, and are beginning to get a bit worried that effectively their money is being used to help their hospital trusts out of the financial hole they are in.

I did hear yesterday that some trust staff are asking about interest on the money owed.

well i have been completely screwed over with this, i have lost £3k!!! And as i'm frozen on my current salary for 6 years, that means i cant progress any further in my job, therefore i need to leave asap. But they are really screwin it up for themselves, as there is a job freeze in west herts, once we all leave, they wont be able to employ any new staff!

Bendybops19, have you submitted a review request? You get two chances, first a review, and if that fails and you have enough to back it up, go for an appeal. Got to be worth a go, I know of many people who have lost out significantly like you, and it's outrageous. Our trust is supposed to be starting the review process this month, but that's assuming they've done all the assimulations first.

    :mad::mad:ARGH!!!!!:mad::mad:

In the middle of negotiations for a new job, apparently under AfC, I can only move on to the next equivalent point on the pay scale - yep about £850:rolleyes:. I have pointed out that it's not even going to cover travel costs, let alone the hassle of moving to another org. Even worse, if I sit tight where I am, I get the increment four months anyway.

I formally gave in my notice on Monday, had it accepted & now I feel sick :(
