Does that mean he will never beable to get a job ? If thats the case i think the jobcentre should have advised him of this !!

Here is a list of documents that he could use to prove his right to work in the UK - they are on the whole the same as those required to open a bank account.

ok, all he has is a birth certificate, and nothing else from that list, it says you need two things.
He has been for lots of interviews, although he hasn't got a job yet he was never asked to prove anything or be told that if he got the job he will have to prove he's right.
  • i dunno, hes worked in a pub, carpet shop and now a warehouse, just while we have been together, hes had loads of other jobs before.

It would be worth asking the JCP if they can offer funding towards him getting a passport or another form of ID, as he will need it for any legitimate job. I have seen cases where they have funded one before, but that was a long time ago and funds are much tighter now.

bex16 how does your ex get the money from his wages out of your bank account?

also, you said you had been honest, but then said you hadn't declared this bank account because you didn't think they had a reason to know about it? surely you filled in a form when you claimed benefits that asked you to declare ALL your bank accounts?
I work in Housing Benefits however my comments are my own understanding of the law / procedures and you should also check with your local authority.

If he has dealings with the Job Centre then he should have a NI Number on any letters he has had in correspondence from them. The NI Number, shown on an original of an official document, plus his Birth Certificate should be 2 forms of acceptable ID for a Bank account.

    List 2

Two of the documents in the combinations listed below will provide evidence of the right to work in the UK. The documents provided must be the originals.

    First Combination
A document giving a person’s permanent National Insurance number and name. This could be a: P45, P60, National Insurance card, or a letter from a Government agency

AND one of the following documents
A full birth certificate issued in the United Kingdom, which includes the names of the holder’s parents
  • Hello......Can anyone help ? I need to know how to get in touch with a manager or headoffice at the Jobcentre to make a complaint!I am on jobseekers allowance. I have another letter from a customer compliance Officer. I have already had two before and called in twice for interviews with the same officer. I thought it was all over. They had suspicions that as my landlord lives in the same house as me that we where together as a couple. This is false and not true. I thought everything was sorted but have another letter from them asking to see me again. I called up the compliance today and they said that my landlord issues where cleared and that they did not want to talk to me about this again. There is something else they want to see me about, they have evidence of something and they will not tell me what.
I am so stressed and upset. I have done nothing but look for work since signing on in november and do not understand where all of this is coming from. I want to make a complaint and see if i have any rights too in regard to going in again for another interview. Are they using me as a guinea pig to test and ask questions to see if they might catch me out? This is so unfair and is making me depressed. I want to delay the interview and find out my rights. How can i go about this? I am recently been offered a job and want to sign off today but now im scared as they might think its because they might think Im guilty of whatever they want to accuse me of. Shall i just sign off and than make the complaint? HELP .......

Sounds like you have a "friend" - someone is clearly reporting you to DWP - the compliance officer isn't out to get you - someone is reporting you. Do you have any idea who would want to cause you trouble?

You should go to the meeting and find out what they want, even if you sign off you will still have to attend (this was advice I got recently from someone who worked there doing fraud). Otherwise people would commit massive fraud then sign off if they got caught out.
Then I would write to the manager of the centre, you could just try addressing it to The Manager and either send a copy to your MP, or say you are sending a copy. Or just write to your MP in the first instance, and ask them to forward it on which they should do. Having had experience of this myself getting an MP involved really puts the wind up them and gets things moving.
