I have CoOp cashminder and am happy with it.
- Used since August last year with no problems.
- Use it in Tesco all the time (shop and garage).
- I buy stuff online with no problems.
- OH has her own card.
- Can use the card in the Post Office (cash in and payments out).
- Online banking is good. 'Recent Items' shows CHAPS as it hits the account.
- Paid for airline ticket to Spain (poorly relative not a holiday).
The only time I had to think about it was online when additional age / ID verification was required (e-mailed a scan of my passport).
I also load some emergency cash onto a pre-pay card (CashPlus) as a backup but have not yet needed to use it.0 -
I've found the Cashminder Electron card is widely accepted on the High Street and is getting better all the time. I've also found it now works in the ticket machines at railway stations.
I've found it does have some drawbacks though.
Paying money into the account is a bit cumbersome. As a BR I also have a cashcard only account with a major bank. I often pay money into this account, which has a branch on every high street, and then tranfer it to the Co-op over internet banking. It takes a few days, but is straightforward.
The Co-op online site is slow to update with new purchases, even cash point withdrawls. This can make it difficult to review your true finiancial position at any one time.
In some cases only a full credit card and not an Electron will be excepted. For example, where a deposit is required such as with Car Hire.
Hope this helps.0 -
Quick update
I remember some-one on another thread saying they couldn't use it at Carphone Warehouse, however, you can use it a e2save.com which is part of CPW.

Paying money into a Co-op account couldn't be simpler. Walk into any Post Office with your card and ask to make a cash deposit.
It is instantly credited to the account.====0 -
I have one of these and as well as the other places already mentioned I have found that Holland & Barrett will not accept it (I mean in the shops, havnt tried on line)
I recently opened an account with Yorkshire Bank (Same as Clydesdale Bank) the account is called readycash and is thier equivalent of the Cashminder account - the real bonus is that it comes with a Maestro card (debit & ATM but not cheque guarantee) which makes life so much easier for buying on line etc.
I went into the branch with some ID and asked for the account - they did a check and confirmed that I was BR but discharged (as most are after 1 year) and the cards etc arrived in the post a few days later - On line banking is fine with YB although you cant pay in at the Post Office - I just use my cashminder to clear cheques paid in at the PO now and then transfer the money via on line banking
Hope this helps0 -
I've often thought about starting a thread for everyone to list places that do and do not accept Visa Electron, Maybe now's the time

Just to add to comments I made earlier in this thread. I've been using my Electron card since Sept 07. I've been happy with it for the most part and haven't encountered any difficulties with using it re the places I want to shop either online or in the high street.
My only issue is with the speed with which transactions are shown when you look at your account online since it does take a while to update. This does mean that you need to be aware of what you have spent recently (I for instance record all my transactions on a spreadsheet so I always have a detailed up to date snapshot of where I stand as well as projecting my cash flow into the future).
This is particularly important if you run the card on a low overall balance, I'd advise setting yourself a financial 'buffer point' below which you don't allow your account to fall to avoid any issues arising out of forgetting a transaction going thru' but not currently shown that might cause a problem with your account otherwise.0 -
does anyone have a picture or link to the card as i am waiting for mine through the post!!you cant change yesterdaybut you can make tomorrow better0
