I recently found out about this card, when I bumped into another Mum from from my son's Special school who was collecting the form for her son & asked for one for my son also.

I noticed another useful freebie on the Autistic Societies website, is one carer can go free when when accompanying a disabled child, at Legoland .

I feel a bit annoyed about this card.
My son is very obviously severely disabled.
In the school hols,if my daughter is to get to see a film ,he has to come with us.
It was not easy getting a suitable photo for the card but I filled in the form, sent the money, etc and got the card.
We used it once and then my purse was stolen with the card inside.
I know that isn't the cinema's fault, but they won't give the concession without the card even though there is no doubt that he is disabled.
So I now have to go through the whole trouble and expense again.
These cards are excellent for those with non-visible disabilities, but why put extra burdens on disabled people where their disbility is obvious?

I realise this may be a silly question, sorry if it is, but wonder if you appealed to the card issuer that they might be kind enough to issue you a free one, due to it being stolen?

There is no specific discount for the carer that I know of but look out for freebie tickets. I had a load of free tickets from one of the toilet roll offers some time back and used to use the voucher for me to get in and my husband got in free with the CEA card.

My local theatre allows the carer to go free for wheelchair spaces so when I take my mum I pay for one ticket for her as a pensioner and I go free cos she's in a wheelchair. Not the best seats in the house but she's happy and I get a cheap night out.

I received this information through a national charity magazine so am assuming it to be all above board and legit.

    The website is here

Indeed the site is legitimate and I have had the ticket for a year or more now and it has saved me a nice little amount of money. For anyone who hasn't got it thinking about the fee, it is soon recoouped especially in London where the cost of cinema seems triple to that of Cambridge.
    Loving freebies

I've only just spotted this thread - wonder how it ended up in 'gone, but not forgotten'?

Does anyone know if the Picturehouse chain of cinemas accept this card? I've emailed my local Picturehouse but,as yet, no reply, checked on the CEA website (no joy) and rung the CEA and they said not (but the girl I spoke to didn't sound very convinced or convincing).

Aha! I've answered my own question (or, rather, a nice person at my local Picturehouse did):

"Our policy is that all registered disabled people get a free ticket for their carer at all times, simply bring in some proof of your status upon purchase."

So don't even need the CEA card. Am weighing up whether the CEA card is necessary. Does it make life easier at the ticket office at Vue, Odeon etc. or is it just as easy (and recognisable) to take proof of DLA etc.? Does the disabled parking badge (blue badge) count? (Tho' not the easiest solution if it's already in the car!)

Any advice / experience on this is gratefully received.
