Don't know if you found the same, but it was amazing how many people in our families felt that they should tell us that we should follow tradition and not these "new fangled" ideas - just made me even more determined :D

My MIL actually said at one point that she didn't care what I called myself she'll still call me Mrs X
She didn't know what to do when she realised her DS was changing his name too so she couldn't call me Mrs X :D

Actually in-laws were very good about it - they address birthday cards to mr and mrs double barrelled - even to their son.
However, random older relatives on their side were horrified - hence i know which side of the family mr and mrs previous surname are from...:rotfl:
    The IVF worked;DS born 2006.

If you want to use your maiden name as a middle name you will need a Deed Poll.

We got married 4 years ago and I just added in my maiden name as a middle name and was not required to change it by Deed Poll. My maiden name appears as a middle name on my passport, bank cards, driving licence, NI card etc. and all without Deed Poll.

Also, I changed the name on my passport to my married name before be got married but it meant that my new passport was not valid until the date of our wedding day.

If you want to change your name then you can have your passport changed before the wedding, but the start date will be the wedding date. You don't have to do this straight away, and I remember it took me about two years to change my driving license to the marriage name. It's a big faff contacting all the banks etc with the new details.

As for whether you *should* change your name - that's a personal decision and you should go with what *you* want and not with what your family/friends say that you should do.
