    ** AVG FREE 8 **

I updated from free AVG 7.5 yesterday, only possible problem would appear to be that the Web Shield is not active.

On the overview page I have Nine items, all of which are active except the bottom left one (web shield) which is not.

Is this normal? or, Should I take any further action?

My list is smaller than yours!
    I've got:
    Anti-Virus
    Anti - Spyeware
    E-mail Scanner
    License (sic)
    Link Scanner
    Resident Shield
    Update Manager
    all ticked.

[BTW further to my previous posts about the overhead imposed by Link Scanner, it seems that "Drive-By" badware is the flavour of the year; so anything that discourages visits to dodgy sites is a "good thing".

Installed it on my GF's laptop and if anything performance has improved - especially from boot up.

I did however elect not to take the toolbar
Likewise i unchecked the toolbar & i've installed this on my laptop
    Toshiba
    Centrino Duo T2600
    1 Gb Ram
    XP Pro

    And on my home PC
    Mesh
    Amd 3800+
    1.5 Gb ram
    XP Pro

And it runs like a dream on both of them & even found trojans that Antivir & Avast had missed i personally chop and change Av's regulary to see what's out there and although i'd agree AVG is more intensive on your PC if you have a half decent PC it''s a great program

AVG's link scanner makes a virtual visit to each site on your Google results page in the background. It is causing a big spike in page visits and is confusing the stats for webmasters everwhere as the visits look real.
  • The link scanner seems to be speeding up. perhaps it is building its own database of red yellow and green sites and only visiting the new grey ones?
