EXCUSE MY LANGUAGE AS I AM SO P***D OFF AT THE MOMENT BUT I MUST THANK the op for starting this thread about which AVG is better, 705 or 8, guys i simply am shocked and very annoyed too.

Let me tell u what just happened, we have 2 pc's in the house, a newish one from Dell which is super fast and also this onw which is a measly 700mhz old pc bought back in 2001 ( i just dont have the heart to freecycle it, as it cost me fifteen hundred pounds!!! plus i need it now thats its up and running again) i had put this in a corner since buying the dell, but installed xp on it the other day (thanks to some fellow mser's help, you know who you are;)) )and it was working great, however upon downloading 8.0 of the ANG, it went DEAD SLOW! For 3 DAYS now i have been thinking that im sure this pc wasnt so slow even with 256k broadband back then and now and with virgin 4/10meg now it shouldn't be like this!

Solution, i just deleted the 8.0 off my pc and hey presto its super speedy loading pages and email etc!

So warning to all: DONT DOWNLOAD THE 8.0 AVG, ATLEAST NOT THE FREE ONE!

If you were happy with AVG 7.5, just uncheck the option to Install the AVG Security Toolbar during the installation process. You were given this 'option' after the e-mail options screen.

That settles it I will avoid AVG 8 and keep Avira as I haven't had any slow down on my computer with Avira, and it does a full system scan faster than AVG 7.5 did, although the AVG user interface was easier to use than the Avira one, for anyone else who wants to give Avira a try I got my copy of it from the computer active website I will post link to it bellow.

why don't you give avira or Avast a try if you want to try another antivirus, I cant speak for Avast as i have never tried it, but I can say that Avira is quite good, both Avast and Avira are available from

    and of course

Is it true that updates for AVG7.5 will no longer be available after 31st May?

This thread on the AVG forum appears to confirm it but I am not sure!

One thing to beware of with not upgrading to AVG8, is that AVG 7.5 new virus updates will cease from end of May.!!!!

No I posted from the bottom of page 1 not realising there was a page 2 to this thread. So mistakenly thinking the info was new, and thus important.
