I am surprised that AVG have not heard of the expression that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. AVG 7.5 worked so well.
I am happy with Avira and the PC does not seem to have slowed at all compared with AVG 7.5.To Dare is To Do:beer:0 -
Updates for avg 7.5 are available until the end of 2008. The following is posted on the avg forum

Personally, UI use Comodo antivirus as Sky Netgear routers don't seem to like AVG too much.Money can't buy friends, but it can get you a better class of enemy - Spike Milligan.0

I installed AVG 8 and was very happy until I did full system scan and it crashed - repeatedly restarting computer after 8ooo files. My sisters machine had the same problem. Have now installed the beta version of the new Comodo Free antivirus. Most impressed so far and it also found a suspect trojan that AVG had missed.0

I did however elect not to take the toolbar0 -

Thanks for the advice on anti virus changes. I got into Avg by buying a cd in 2000 for about five pounds, at one of those cheap book shops. The box promised free antivirus for life, wish I had held onto that box now, to show them. Still, if another one runs quicker, thats as good a reason as any to make a change.0

Let me start by saying I HATE doing software and hardware changes.
Perhaps because I don't really UNDERSTAND what I am doing. So its like following a new recipe and I frequently seem to create a bit of a burnt offering (eg my Google initial web page loads OK on Internet Explorer but crashes with Firefox).
Anyway back on topic: "Upgrading" AVG to a new release.
Logged on this morning to my 2 year old Dell running Windows XP (which is about all I can tell you about it). I had logged on into the "Administrator" area fired up by the fear that my AntiVirus was already three days out of date. I was still fiddling about when 08:30 came along and right on schedule I got a supposed AVG update.
I think it used to say "free edition" and this time it said "AVG 7.5", though like a building that gets demolished, you don't really notice it until its gone:rolleyes:. My first reaction was OMG this could be some sort of scam:mad:.
Having read this useful thread, I feel much more secure!
So I have two questions on behalf of me and the other computer illiterates who use this machine:
What will AVG 8 do for me that AVG 7.5 is not already doing?
If I stick with AVG 7.5 until Xmas, what extra risks am I taking?
